Credit question

So last year I ran my credit report and everything was fine, no late payments on anything, only thing that was on there was my student loans, credit score of 670. I was looking to get a student credit card through citibank, and they just sent me a rejection letter saying "your previous or existing account has a history of late payments". How could this be when I have never had anything to do with these people? If anyone knows how to get ahold of someone from there, that would be cool. Thanks.

I have pretty good credit over 700 on Fico and one late payment like 4 years ago and Citibank still rejected me.

oh forgot, if you got rejected you should be able to get a free report on why within 60 days.

I have never hand anything to do with these people, but don't feel like spending $40 to run another credit report. I thought that you got a free one, if you were rejected?

That's pretty weird. I have had at least one late payment on each of my credit cards (total of 3) since I first got one (about 4 years ago). I still just got recently approved by Citibank for their Plat Dividend Card.

Was your late payment maybe a day after the due date and then you paid it off? If you let it go for more than a few weeks, I'm certain they put it on your credit report. If it's just a day or two I don't think they report it.

Correct

30+ day late payments (made after your official PAYMENT DUE DATE) are reported to the credit bureau.

I had one of those Secured Credit Cards, and bought some things off newegg & few other online stores, used it once in a while while going out as well... never any late payments. Anyways after 6-7 months using the secured card I applied for Citi Platinum Dividend & I got accepted, quickly cancelled the secured card.

Oh it was always way past the due date. Usually 2 weeks, or until I received my next statement. I haven't had any recent ones since I'm more responsible now, but when I first got it, I'd always making calls to their cust. reps to reverse the charges.
