Credit Question

I am looking into getting a family plan cell phone plan

but how well does someones credit need to be, to get a plan?

(also, this is for my grandmother - which just got a new car, and was worried about her credit - weird i know, but i thought to ask)

Thanks!

When I got my Cell, I had no credit. I had to make a "safety deposit" which would be refunded within a year.

She'll likely have to do that if she doesn't get approved.

when my parents wanted to add another line to my current plan, cingular wanted a $300 security deposit.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't really address your question. What I meant to say was, when I got my plan they didn't ask for a deposit since I guess my credit was good enough, but when my sister wanted one, they asked for the same $300 deposit since her credit is not so good.

I paid $150 as a deposit, with absolutely no credit. I signed onto Cingular. My brother with decent credit got his without a deposit.

My total when I signed up was the 150 deposit, plus whatever the phone cost. Phone was 150 before rebate, so it ended up a bit more than 300. My first bill had my monthly bill and activation fee on it.
