Hell yeah it helps 🙂 I did it for a year, and my credit score jumped to 697 on that alone when I was 18 🙂

What was yoru score, before and after?

Prior to that, I had NO CREDIT whatsoever, so I don't know my score.

Then your score is quite valid..

Few of you wrong idea about FICO Score. There is only ONE FICO score which is based on your credit history maintained by three credit bureaus.

For getting official FICO score, go to FICO.

To answer your OP question, yes in fact it helps to pay off whole amount every month even of you have low credit limit.

There is a good book by Suze Orman or google her name and check out her website. She has good advice for first time home buyers.

FYI, last night i was reading on the forums @ creditboards.com.
I signed up for score watch with equifax came with a credit report I disputed a credit card I had when I was 18 which went to a collection agency. I read the newbie forum and I did what it said. I claimed it wasnt mine. I checked my score watch today my score jumped 10 points to 490, Got an alert said item has changed.. im moving ahead just by a few hrs its up. Im going to be desputing much more. I HIGHLY recommend everyone check out the site www.creditboards.com.. Its not just for people with bad credit.

How can you claim its not your credit card Nerve when it is?

helo7050, its possible those collection agencies you never heard of bought your debt from the other companies for cents on the dollar in order to make some profit.

The law states that anything on your credit report has to verify and be validated. If it cant be it must be taken off.
When a credit card account gets sold to a collection agency it is harder to validate. I claimed it wasnt mine and now its off. read about it at the creditboards

hey i just paid off one of my cards with a $1200 limit. should I close it? I don't plan on using it much at all. would it be better to just close it? or leave it open and not use it? Since using only a small % of your available credit is supposed to look good on your credit, wouldn't leaving it open with a zero balance be good? I have a few cards w/ zero balances and I never use them, should I just close them?

Nope. Leave 'em all open with no balance, you've got the right idea.🙂

Toss the cards in the freezer if you want to make sure you aren't tempted.

Leave it open, it'll stay on your credit history that way. Just be careful in not using it. One friend of mine put his cards into a glass of water, and then froze it to avoid the temptation. It worked.
