Due date 9/30

I just sent payment online...but will not get posted till 10/03.

Next closing date is 10/05.

My question is will I get nailed because I missed the due date or am I okay because I made it before the next closing date?

Will I get nailed?

They probably have a disclosure that states that when your payment ir processed and in their pockets, that is when the statement is written as having been paid.

Oh yeah, it might be a 35 dollars overdue fee instead of 29 depending on your bank.

I had one last year and it was $35.

But I missed the next closing date. This time I will make it...though still past the due date.

Oh well. I'll find out soon enough.

Most companies will look for every which way they can charge you. I'm sure you'll get smacked with a late fee. There was a time when my CC's online site was down on the due date of my bill. I couldn't obviously pay it on time, so I went in to my local banker (they're the issuers of the credit card) and a lady there disputed with a CC rep for ~20 minutes before they were able to get the late fees reversed. Get this, they had also charged me an overdraft fee because the late fee pushed my limit! (It was a student card with $500 limit...I bought a pair of Athlon processors back in the day that totaled ~$490 from NewEgg)

Creditcard companies are dicks...follow the rules carefully and you won't get boned. :)

If this is your first "missed" date, your credit rating will not be affected. If there is a charge, I would suggest calling them and kindly reminding them that you made the payment the day before it was due, and it's not your fault they cannot process payments quicker.

What I read:
Due date: 9/30
Date he will make payment: 10/03
Not his first "missed" date.

I believe they go by the due date - miss it and you're SOL. Sorry! :(

I think what's worse than a fee is a jacked up credit rating =(

Unless you're 30 days past due, it won't be on your credit report.

If this is the first time you missed a payment date, call them and ask them to remove the fee. If they won't, cancel your card. 95% of the time they will remove the fee instead of losing you as a customer.

This is a Chase account.

For clarification:

Due Date: 9/30.
I went online 10/1 and did the transaction.
It said payment would be posted 10/3.
Next closing date is 10/5.

Last year when I got nailed ($35) I had missed the following closing date, so I am not sure what will happen this time.

I will report back here in a few days with an update.

you're gonna get owned.

late fee, ding on your credit and they may raise your rate. Any other cards you have from other banks may raise your rate as well.

I was an hour late for an mbna payment. It didn't hit my credit report since it was due on the 12th and closing date is the 20th. I paid on the 13th. I was charged a late fee of $35 but called and they gave it back to me since I have never been late and cust for 10 years. Stupid MBNA moved up the due date by 3 days that month. It was typically due on the 15h or 16th before then.

happened to me once... called and said that I thought online payments were instantanious... blah blah, if they had recieved a check on the 29th they would have charged me even though it hadn't cleared yet blah blah, and they took the $2x.xx late fee off.. YMMV though.

haha, remember to pay your bill ahead of time next time. the date after the closing date to the due date is your grace period and you have to pay by the due date.

you can try to call them up and ask for a courtesy for the first time offense.

Shame on you! Don't wait so damn long to pay your bills! Or do what I do and pay online...however, still allow enough days so that if the site is down, you have enough time to mail it in. (have had that happen...called the CC company and they extended my billing period by a couple days because it was their fault their online pay site was down!)

Damn.
And be careful, in most CC agreements everything you buy from now on will likely have interest until you get it to a $0 balance. So you might want to consider overpaying instantly to get yourself to a negative balance and end the interest immediately.
