I had thought about opting out, but sometimes they send pretty nice offers - it's how I got the Citibank Dividend Platinum Select a couple years ago. I'm over $1,000 in cash rebates so far.

I'll put up with having to shred the bad offers so I don't miss a good one.

Bingo.

Every now and then I'll receive a nice 0% APR balance transfer for 18 months offer. Who knows they might sell me a product I actually want. Otherwise I spend about 5 minutes a week shredding them. I think I can put up with that.

i just check atot or fatwallet when i want a new one, and apply myself. I'm kinda surprised i got approved for the citi platinum dividend as my second cc

I love credit cards 😀 That's how I got my non-tiered 2% cash-back on ANYTHING credit card from HouseHold - very few people get it. I love CCs so much, I think I have about 40 credit cards now (all paid off in full each month). Love the sign-up bonuses especially, the main reason I have so many of them. I regularly use only about 10 of them, each for a specific purpose (meaning the give me the best reward back for using it).

Holy 40 credit cards! Does that affect your credit score?

That is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. I would laugh if one got stolen. You wouldn't know it for a month. I'd laugh if they all got stolen. You'd definately forget to cancel at least one of them.

Be smarter than that. If you seriously have to have 10 to use on a regular basis... why don't you cancel the other 30?

Not true. I have horrific credit, and I get at least three offers a week.

My chase card gives me 5% on grocery/drugstore/gas purchases. Between walmart and walgreens, about 90% of my purchases fall under the 5% rebate category.

more like the guy knows what he is doing.

40 credit cards and all paid off means he does not really have a problem with spending more than he has.

cancelling the other credit cards will be a negative on his credit score

There was a post about this before.. Mail them whatever you want with those postage paid envelopes...such as tires..

Interesting idea, but my post office won't let anyone mail anything without a return address.

So put down ANYTHING but your own address for the return address.

Also, tearing up pre-apprioved credit apps may not be enough..this is an interesting read.
