Credit card offers in the mail

TallBill

Lifer
Between my wife and myself we get roughly 1 credit card offer per day in the mail as of late. On friday, we got 3! Its getting fairly annoying.

Needless to say, our paper shredder stays very busy.

Most of those cards have a box to check off and mail in if you don't want any more offers I believe. The ones I get do anyways.

You can opt out via the 3 credit reporting firms. Its (the opting out) is good for 3 years (I think).

LOL...that's funny!

Usually if you "return to sender" (as long as it is first class mail...if it's bulk, it gets trashed by the post office), the company has to pay the return postage.

BTW: I actually have the phone numbers (for the 3 major credit reporting bureaus) that you can call to "opt out" of such offers. Here they are:

Equifax: 800-525-6285
Experian (formerly TRW): 888-397-3742
Trans Union: 800-680-7269

Hope this helps someone. 🙂

lol, good advice 😀

wouldn't that just have the low credit providers send you offers?

Use their prepaid envelopes to send newspaper clippings back. I doubt the brick idea will work.

I get them in phases. Lately I've been getting about 4 a week, but I did go months without any. There was a point right after I graduated from college where I was getting on average 2-3 a day. It was very annoying at that point.

I had thought about opting out, but sometimes they send pretty nice offers - it's how I got the Citibank Dividend Platinum Select a couple years ago. I'm over $1,000 in cash rebates so far.

I'll put up with having to shred the bad offers so I don't miss a good one.

Bingo.

Every now and then I'll receive a nice 0% APR balance transfer for 18 months offer. Who knows they might sell me a product I actually want. Otherwise I spend about 5 minutes a week shredding them. I think I can put up with that.

I thought about sending envelopes filled with rocks back to them, but noticed they print a barcode on alot of the return envelopes now.. haha wonder if they'll realize i sent it back..

There are numbers you can call to be put on a do not call list for credit card offers.
I think they were posted in this thread already.

This happens to me as well...I think my record is three EXACT SAME offers received on the SAME day! Still only have one...why need more?

Yeah, because it's so hard to throw them in the trash/papershredder/recycingbin/fireplace.

😛

its a waste of money, waste of paper, waste of post office resources, waste of my time having to tear them up into pieces so someone won't go into my garbage and sign up for CC using my name.

and, do you all get Capital One card offers? i get some AMEX, some Chase, but the most of them i see is Capital One, where do they get the marketing budget anyways?

Nah. That's a fake barcode. They put that on there so you won't send them their own crap back. As others have stated, some people use the pre-paid envelope to send bricks, rocks, etc. back. I just put the terms and conditions sheet thingy back in there and send it back to them. If you look at the barcode, it's printed on. Poorly.
