The only thing that carrying a credit card balance does is cost you interest.

It does not help your credit rating at all, and in fact, lowers it slightly when the debt is there. Barring some extreme circumstances, there is no good reason to carry a balance.

I have 3 cards, each had $35K limits. I asked everyone to bring them down to less than 10K, which they did, but now a few years 2 of them are pushing $30K again because they just keep raising them.
