Hi,

My situation is Company A has my credit card number on their database. I want them to remove it.

I've asked them to do so, but they refuse citing "automatic renewal for my 'convenience'".

Is there any law (Canadian or US) that can force them to remove my credit card number from their database?

Thanks

I would report your cc as STOLEN and get a new one.

Also make sure to update your automated payments with the new cc.

any other options?

my card is one of those Bank of America Debit/Credit Visa Cards

I don't want to report my card as stolen everytime I want my credit card removed from a database...

there has to be some sort of privacy law concerning this?

If you give them your number, you can't ask for it back. As far as I know, the agreements only go as far as not sharing the info. That would be like a girl giving you her phone number, then asking you to forget it. Does that make sense?

I don't think they would. It should be a security measure already defined in your contract.

But if you keep going in after each purchase saying it was stolen, they're going to ask questions.

Get a new card, & then if you really must keep using this company give them one time use numbers.

I think PayPal was offering this program that generated a virtual CC number for you. You should call your bank and see if they have a similar service.

Why do you care if they have your CC number?

Because if their database was compromised it would be a hassle? I don't care enough to ask to remove mine because of the $50.00 limit, but it would be a bummer.

Why even worry about it? You wouldn't be liable for the charges.

Op, you asked them to not charge your card and they said they will? That is illegal.

Sounds like you purchased something possibly illegal and are worried about the fed getting your info from the company.

I cannot believe for the life of me a company will not delete your number if you ask them.

In any case, cancel the card if they dick you around more and go with bankofamerica, which allows you to create one-time use numbers with set limits. It's the only way I ever do anything on the net.
