Just using a citi rewards card for buying gas and groceries and large expenses, I got $500 in gift cards last year. That's not chump change.

What they need is a program that ties the use of my Master "Debit" Card to some sort of rewards program.

I used to use Citi Dividend; I redeemed all my points for an 80 gig iPOD, a nice anitque looking wall clock, a few gift cards, and a travel kit (45000 points over 3 years). It is typically 1 point her $1 and you can get double points for certain purchases.
Now, I use AMEX Starwood card. Starwood is a hotel frequent flier program. 1 pt. per $ and double points if you stay at a SPG hotel (SHeraton, etc.). YOu can redeem points for hotel nights or flights.

Same here. I use my credit card for grocery and all purchases to rack up points.

Most banks that have a debit Mastercard will. WaMU does, I know.

Same here. My wife and I charge everything on our credit cards except for rent which is paid with a check. We receive a single bill at the end of our billing cycle and the rewards accumulate pretty damn quickly. We charge our cable, cell phones, groceries, utility bills, clothes, CostCo purchases, magazines, fleshlight upgrades, etc.

Yeah, but they don't reward shite.

With reward cards, the benefit only comes from using them. Unless you are cycling a decent amount of cash to them it's usually better to shop rate. If you are going to a benefits card use it like RossMAN stated...run everything through it and then pay it off promptly.

True, the rewards aren't comparable generally to credit card rewards, but it is a debit card.
And it sure beats a local bank that gives you absolutely nothing.

If you're a CostCo member I would highly recommend the CostCo Amex cc.

Good advice. I forgot to mention charge everything and pay it off in full every month.
Rewards + no interest = free $$$
