I have credit scores all around 640-660 mainly due to a $200 credit card I let go 4 years ago when I was 19. I since settled for $800...Needless to say Capital One got a nice return, try that in the stock market for the love of god...

I now have two open credit cards with perfect history for 1 year. I wanted the Buy.com Visa so I could get the coupons and the discount.

They are so F'ing retarded it is not even funny. Give me a $500 limit if you are worried, but let's see here, I can go shop at Newegg, Amazon, Fry's, and a hundred other places. I don't need to shop at Buy.com or anywhere else. Any of these companies that extended me credit would definitely have a happy and loyal customer. On top of that, what risk is there? Capital one got there mother fuvkin $800 on a $200 credit card. RISK WHO RISK WHAT??????

The credit system needs to be abolished. Whoever invented it is an idiot.

OP - Have you gotten your credit report and cleaned it up to make sure there is no inaccurate info on it?

You are so confused.

Credit takes work. Mine is absolutley perfect and what do I have to show for it? About 70k in unsecured credit card lines and a mortgage at 20 years old. I EARNED it. You BLEW it.

I LOVE the credit system :D, and so do the rest of us responsible people...

He has 7 years to think about how irresponsible he was before things will be back to normal for him.

Yep...I subscribe to True Credit so I can pull my report anytime I want to. The only negative mark is that charge off on the $200 credit card. I told them I would pay the full $1200 if they would just take it off my report...they would not budge.

That is a 600% return in 4 years...How is that entitlement? Young kids with NO GUIDANCE WHATSOEVER MAKE MISTAKES. I rectified my mistakes, what more do they want me to do? They want to give me the fuvkin Cucumber treatment for the next 7 years over one stupid card. I didn't even know what a credit score was back then.

Do those who think I am being treated the way I deserve, may I ask why? What doesn't make sense about me thinking I deserve a frickin' $500 credit card?

Why would you apply for / receive 70K in credit at 20?

Did you not go to college? Are you in college?

Maybe the fact that with a dent in your credit history and two already open CCs, they figure you don't qualify for another?

I already graduated, Bachelor's CompSci (econ minor) while working full time. I have an Amex, the Citi Dividend Platinum, an MBNA/BoFA Platinum, A Chase Platinum tier Wawa card, a Kohls card and a Wachovia Platinum card.

FICO used to calculate my mortgage was ~750. I got ~6.0% after the points (which I financed into the loan since the break even point was ~4 years).

My point is that the OP completley missed the point on how credit works and is going to have to do a lot more to repair it than just make payments for a year. You really have to work at it. I couldn't disagree with the OP more. The credit system is AWESOME. You have to learn to play it.

Whether or not you like, understand, or agree with the rules; in fact whether or not those rules are correct you are still obligated to play by them. It's not the CC's fault that you dind't know what a credit card was. I really can't understand why you're the least bit upset. There are other companies willing to take your business. Only one which has decided that you're still to much of a risk. You screwed up, pay the consequences. That's life.

Exactly. The OP needs to go cry about it because there are plenty of people who went out of their way to learn the rules BEFORE going out and fvcking it up.

Acemcmac: I do know how to play the system now. What I am saying is the punishment does not fit the crime in this case. We are talking getting raped for maybe 10+ THOUSAND DOLLARS over a TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR credit card. Again, if you can use that college education of yours to logically explain to me how that makes sense, I AM ALL EARS

Did you read the CC contract before you signed it? I must have read the one on my first credit card a hundred times before I signed it. It was all right there, plain as day. If you don't pay in full and on time, they fvck you up the ass. That's how it works. Did you miss that part?

I don't know about Awesome. People should learn not to send money they don't have. Why exactly do you need 6 Platinum cards? I mean it seems like an e-penis thing obviously. I have 3 cards, with one of them being my corporate travel card. So I have two CC. Why would I need more than that and 70K in available credit? People who save money and invest wisely don't need to have 6 CC's to feel manly or have financial wealth.

He's admitting he made an honest mistake and didn't understand the system. Let's help him instead of saying "oh you're dumb, I have this and I'm better!" It's called overindulgence, you're no better, just on the other end of the spectrum.

Yes I did. I also did not mention the reason the card wasn't paid off was my debit card got a chargeback after my ex-girlfriend took it and started on a little spending spree. I moved and was no longer receiving statements in the mail. Since I thought it was paid, I didn't worry about it since I was also just fighting for my own survival at that point...

On top of that you completely avoided my question - did I stump you?

He made an argument that the credit system sucks. I told him why I disagree.

It's a pretty long and involved story how I got involved with each of those cards. Most of it had to do with the changing landscape of the rewards card industry over the last few years and the MBNA/BoFa/Wachovia Credit card drama over the last 6 months.

It's part of how you play the system. I have many accounts that are all in perfect standing. The fact that the credit lines are where they are now I think is completley silly, but vindicates that I've had the right strategy all along with my credit.

I never said I was better, but the OP is damning a system that he just never cared to figure out before he messed with it. What he clearly didn't figure on was planning in the first place.

The only thing the OP can do now work with the credit he's got, be flexible with it, pay it off in full every month and as his first incident gets further into the past, he will eventually be able to apply for or will be approved for better credit terms/rewards. If he thinks that missing on Buy.com's offer was bad, wait til it's a car or home loan....

So you pressed charges for credit card fraud against the ex and recovered all of the funds in resitution, right?

Since you already show you failed to handle that small amount ($200), it would be fool of them to handle you a card with 10 thousands line of credit.

crystal - I am not talking about 10 thousand LOC. I am saying that is how much it may end up costing me in the end when it comes time to apply for a mortgage loan or a car loan. I am saying that $500 is not much of a risk when I just paid $800 like 6 months ago.

D22, you aren't going to find any sympathy here, because no one here every makes mistakes. How anyone can justify someone's credit be screwed for 5-7 years because of 200 dollars is beyond me. He settled the debt, is making payments on new accounts now, and there is no reason for it to take 5-7 years to reclaim his good credit.

Your card, your statement, your responsibilities.
In another word, if your card got use without your permission, you need to take corrective action. If you move, then it is your responisbilities to update your new address with your bank(s).

BTW, I smell shens on your ex used your card without you knowing it. Since you are willing to pay $800 to settle the matter, you pretty much admit your guilt.
