I want to sign up for a credit card that has 0% APR for 12 months on a balance transfer and $0 balance transfer fee.

I found a citibank card that did this but I was wondering what happens if I request that they transfer the full $10k from one of my other credit cards but they (Citibank) approves me for a credit limit less than $10k. If that's the case, I don't want the card.

in my past experience, they don't do that. they'll put in an app for a credit line and ask for what you're looking for. if you don't get approved for that amount, they'll approve you for a lesser amount. if you don't want the account, then you'll have to cancel and transfer the balance out.

You won't know until you apply and are approved or denied credit.

Yes it's an evil cycle and it's not fair, it's the way things work.

Either apply and find out or don't, those are you two options.

One credit card application (paper) that I received wanted to know the credit card number and the amount I want balance transferred. I wonder if they would transfer only part of that balance over to their card. Why else would they want to know my transfer amount if they weren't going to base my credit limit on it?

yes, if you're only approved for a part of the total balance, then that's what you're going to get.

does applying for a credit card and not getting a 0% APR or getting deny hurt your credit?

Call them, not a single person here can give you the correct answer.

You can call and talk to them. I called on one in the same situation, and he was able to tell me after going through the process if I was approved or not, and then I was able to decide to continue the transfer or not.

How the hell do you get into 30K of credit card debt to begin with?

So you were simply living far beyond your means.

maybe, maybe not. i just didn't manage my money as well as i could have. it was much harder then when i had a live-in girlfriend that had no job and a brother that needed spending cash. oh yea, not to mention a mother in-law that had needed to be bailed out of a gambling problem.

hah, I would have told my brother to piss off and get a job, and my MIL to talk to her insurance company for knee replacement after the casino owners shatter her existing one.

there's more to the story than that. let's just say that the MIL is/was very gullible just like the ex. the ex also had some medical bills of her own. let's just say that heart surgery as an uninsured college student doesn't go a long way.

the brother is a good guy. he was a fulltime student working as much as he could. i would help him out when he needed, but it wasn't an all time thing. i still keep in touch with him and he keeps to his word. i would still help him out if he needed it.

I don't really have a $10k balance...I just want the 0% APR to 'invest' the $10k+ elsehwere.
