I think they actually use 2.5" notebook hard drives, so I'd imagine you could get a replacement hard drive from somewhere else. It isn't like you wouldn't be paying for it though =\.

Yes, you can open it up, replace the hard drive with a standard laptop hard drive, 2.5" (4200rpm advised) then start in "safe mode" and flash the current bios.
I just ordered a Dell Jukebox, got it for $155 so I figured it would be worth a try.

If you try that and it works (same for you Maluno) please let us know. Another site
that has upgrade instructions for installing a larger drive made it sound like you
needed a working drive to mirror (installing both into a PC), but flashing a new drive would be a lot less work.

If I can find a cheap 2.5" drive, (ie ~$50) I will most definately be trying this. I will also tell you of how it turns out.
What interface will the drive use?
I may start another thread if I need help on this procedure. In any case, its good to know that I can finally use this dead thing for something again!![]()
EDIT: What other site were you talking about where they detailed the procedure?
EDIT 2: I found a couple of $30 drives with 30Gb capacities, that looks good!
