Yoyohowsdajello, btw, since you seem to know a lot about sound;
Is there a good sound card with which to hook up my compy to a ht system. (7.1 infinity 1000 watts sony receiver with optical digital and coax in, no analog)
I definetely want true 5.1 sound, but i also want some kind of eax, because i will mainly be using this for games.

If you don't have 6 channel analog in (or 8 channel in your case), then the only way to get surround sound from games would be to get a soundcard that can encode DD in realtime.

There are a few offerings out there... I'm using the HDA X-Mystique and it's working quite nicely. It only has EAX 2.0 because I think Creative has the higher degrees patented or something?

I'll have to look into that, the reason i said 5.1 was because my receiver only takes in 5.1 signals in optical and coax and prologic's them to 7.1. Thanks, though, i'll look at the x-mystique.

So Creative is finally shipping X-Fi's from their store(or at least saying they're in stock), but only the Music/Platinum versions. I'm really starting to think they haven't mass-produced any cards with RAM chips on them yet(i.e. the Fatality and Elite Pro) since no one has started selling those yet.
