Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer vs Fatal1ty

Hi, I'm wondering if there's any difference between these two sound cards. My main decision to get a sound card is to have the sound handled by a seperate entity apart from the CPU and to result in fewer dropped frames from graphically intensive games. Of course, along side with that, better quality sound and subtleties would be good too. 😛 Anyways, is there any difference between performance of these two cards? If I'm not mistaken, the Fatal1ty has more RAM than the XtremeGamer, but does that affect the performance? Any suggesions for going with either one? I will be running on a rig with Q6600, 8800GTX, and 4GB DDR2 800. Thanks!

I was asking this same question about a week ago. I finally went to Ebay and bought a brand new X-Fi XtremeMusic. The X-Ram shows virtually NO improvement from everything i read. Its only 64mb anyhow. The XtremeGamer or the Fatality were my 2 choices also and i was leaning towards the Gamer. The ONLY difference i read about between the XtremeMusic and the Fatality was the Ram. Performance and Sound were the same from all benchmarks/Reviews i found.

My advice find an XtremeMusic on Ebay (lots there for actually cheaper than the Gamer) I got mine for 79.99 shipped brand new. Also i will have virtually the same rig as you (except an 8800GTS 640 and 2 gigs of ram)

Thanks for the quick response, Rumple! BTW, is there a reason why you decided on the XtremeMusic? Is there any difference between the three we've mentioned in this thread? From what I've seen, newegg doesn't carry the XtremeMusic. Any other advice would be appreciated.

If you run vista then run away from creative cards. They still don't have functional drivers for the x-fi cards and vista was released last fall. Go over to the creative forums and read the threads in the vista section and it will change your mind on wanting a creative card. I'm not at all happy with them and my fatal1ty champion sits in a box since I cannot get functional drivers and software even though they swear that this last update brings full functionality back to the x-fi cards in vista. I'm using onboard sound at the moment until somebody releases a decent vista compatible card that will sound good with my klipsch speakers and can play games with directional sound effects aka eax.

The XtremeMusic popped up in EVERY review and thread i read on the subject with everyone loving it. It has been discontinued. I dont know why but basically the only place to get it is on Ebay. I have not read one bad thing about that card. And it was cheaper than both the others.
