I have been playing teamfortress2 for sometime now and when I switched to Vista-64, I cant get the mic to work properly in a game. I am sure there have been others out there having these issues, any suggestions?

The mic works in the sound properties, and when I go to test voice in steam, i can hear, but its reverbed and pulses. I have used this for years in CS and the like, but I cant get it to work in Vista-64.

I had this same issue a while back (X-Fi XtremeMusic card) and I never found a way to fix it, I just decided to plug my mic into my motherboard input, switched the properties in Vista to make sure it recognized it and I have not had an issue since.

I know it's not ideal, but really the difference in mic sound between the sound card and the onboard is negligible, if there even is a difference.

So you use both onboard for the mic and the audigy for everything else?

That's correct.

Any suggestions for alternatives with the SQ that the x-fi had in xp, AND works with Vista-64? I will thank you if you answer that.;)

I love my creative MP3 player and I loved the xfi in xp, but after reading more and more about creative, I wouldnt mind changing teams....

I use a realtek HD bult into my motherboard. It sounds completely fine, just as good if not better than the Chaintek AV710 with upgraded opamps in my HTPC.

IMO Creative cards don't have SQ that's that much better than any other card, except for obvious crap (AC97 and such). It's highly subjective, and I think if you tried some alternatives, especially modern onboard, you'd be surprised.

Creative has a lock on the "gaming soundcard" market and this allows them tohave decent hardware and crap drivers and never change.

Thanks for the thoughts, tonight for shits and giggles since its TF2 night, I will use my motherboard for sound and just take out the xfi. I will see what happens and report.

Is this one of the cards that has the front face plate? I had a very similar problem with my platinum audigy. It turns out you need to edit an .ini file within the steam game you are trying to play. I had to edit the file to tell the game to look at a different mic port...something like changing a 0 to a 1. I'd tell you which file...but i'm at work :p

No front plate, but I would appreciate you letting me know.

Well switched to my onboard sound and it wont work with just it as a mic (within steam, it works when I am testing it). I did get it to work using just the onboard for sound and mic, but the sound is noticably different (worse). In fact I cant even crank up the music as loud as before.
I have gone back to no mic, I would just like to give a shoutout to the creative driver crew, fark you.

What motherboard do you have? I honestly find it hard to believe that any modern motherboard has noticably worse sound.

Ip35pro.
I downloaded the latest drivers, took out my xfi and got it working even in Team Fortress 2. Did not have the crisp sound that I am used to with the xfi no matter what settings i changed. I listen to music very loud sometimes on my sennheiser's and the volume wouldnt go as loud as I wanted to (max volume was met). On top of that, while gaming in TF2 I heard audible crackling and even cutting out for a split second, this does not happen when I use the xfi. I have no doubt that I am very picky when it comes to sound quality, maybe you dont mind the little differences but I do.

This is all with vista64bit. In xp it (xfi) runs flawless.

Odd, we have the same Realtek ACL88x and I don't notice any crackling or cutting out in my games... FWIW, I'm using the drivers that Vista 32 installed at first install.

I also definitely don't notice a volume issue, but then I run dedicated receivers for each channel pair. :D Headphones are overrated ;)
