God forbid any of Creative's sound card corrupted your data. They might as well close shop and run for the hills to avoid the mob of rioters. But since this is Nvidia, it's no big deal, they're allowed to screw up because they aren't one of the "evil doers".

Pariah, you will stop at nothing to defend your precious Creative. Let us know when you have something constructive, or at least logical, to say. Until then, up yours.

You know, if a new card from Creative didn't work with my Iwill K266 MB, I would understand...

But the nForce 4 chipset? GEEZUS... Come on!!! If Creative "didn't know," they should have. Again, the motivation to turn a profit over good testing is EXACTLY why we should all be screaming in these forums.

Whoever, whatever it is. If it ain't right, fix it. If in ain't broke, PRAISE it.

At least I actually post things relevant to the thread. Your posts can't even attain that incredibly low minimum standard.

A guy over at the Creative forum is reporting nasty problems with the X-fi and his INTEL P4

Maybe this bug isn't just MY problem.

So, not only nForce4 users are affected? I will start reading up and see if this original issue as pointed out to date is now potentially a cross-platform issue and report back!

Hi dwb. It appears to me that this guy is having an unrelated problem. He installed the card and the machine booted fine, and then he made the mistake of letting Windows load default drivers for it. When he figured out that didn't work, he then went to the CD for the drivers and tried again and it still did not work. This is when the real mess started for him. Definitely Creative should know that some people would get themselves into this mess and the driver CD install routine should be written in such a way as to correct it, but this is on the forgivable end. Lots of other hardware would react the same way.

I think Creative does say to cancel the auto-install. Just for the record, does the Windows auto-install ever work properly?

I own two DVD's - "The Holy Grail" and "Naploleon Dynamite" Both classics, plus I don't get out much.

My analyst says that if I keep making progress, I will be able to use a fork again soon.

Yeah, but only for hardware enumerated in the DRIVER.CAB. If you have like four year old hardware, eg. a VIA KT266A chipset or i815 or something it will work fine. Anything newer....

I actually decided to research the x-fi because I was one of the 686b/sblive victims. So I do a little research and what do I find? A load of very similar forum posts from all over the place. Very dissapointing Creative! I havne't built my computer yet, so I'll either need to buy a intel machine to conform to creative labs crap or go amd and either get a different sound card or risk being in the 686b/sblive situation AGAIN. I really hated that. Dejavu! I'm glad I did my research before buying this time.

Hang on, I thought the issue was only with the Nvidia chipsets. There *are* other chipsets you could use no? I mean I don't seem to have issue with my ULI

It is predominatly with nForce4 chipsets, and not those that have BIOS revisions that remove whatever stumbling block there was there. Some other people (P4) have reported problems, but I would guess that it is not a consistent or persistent problem with them.

If you have an nForce4 chipset, I would postpone a purchase until you confirm through forums that your MB and BIOS are OK; don't trust Creative or you friendly neighborhood dealer that are more interested in a sale than hardware compatibility.

Creative is apparently now shipping cards that WILL work with the nForce4 motherboards. However, they seem reluctant to release version or serial numbers that would allow those concerned to purchase the properly updated card.

WTF is up with that?

Keep in mind only certain cards have the problem. Either the ones with the ram or the ones without it - I forget. And yes some motherboards have updated their bios to fix the problem and creative has an updated firmware to fix the problem too. However, this whole situation still reaks with the typical creative smell.

Just today I bought an X-FI Digital Audio (Japan version of X-FI XtremeMusic with an optical/coaxial I/O add-on) and installed it without a hitch.

I looked through all the Creative and Asus forum threads on the X-FI problem but I couldn't find an example of any issue with the A8N32-SLI Deluxe.

I installed the card, turned off the onboard audio, booted into XP Pro, loaded the software and drivers, rebooted, and then was totally blown away by D3 and HL2 Lost Coast.

This card is awesome. :thumbsup::thumbsup::D

Hey, if you ever decide to sell that optical add-on, let me know.

I put up with this problem for weeks on my DFI NF4X Infinity until I gave up last Friday and RMAd the card. It was easy to get the RMA through Creative's support. Now I just have to wait to get my card back :(
