EMAN is so smart, I bet he has an A+ cert and everything.

Gonad is so smart, I bet he cleans toilets for a living.

This post was about Graphics not their soundcard. If you had even a slight clue you would say something important instead of making jokes and insulting people. Is that how you bacame a golden member?

What is up with these stupid insults. Do you think it's really gonna hurt my feelings? I live in U.S.A. just remember that. And what is up with all these lynch mobs who hate Creative. If you hate Creative don't buy and that's all. Stop whining to me that their driver sucks.

Ah, it was a JOKE.

Actually it was an issult.

Well I've never been accused of being a patriot. Anyway, I hate Creative because their support(driver and otherwise) sets new standards for the term "totally inept".

I didn't say they were all Creative's fault.

But you said that they were all the users' fault.

Show me where and I'll retract that statement.

<< This post was about Graphics not their soundcard >>

your second post in this thread states that creative has "pull" to help propel their upcoming gpu. this pull is from their soundcard market power. so i wouldn't be quick to say this post was not about their soundcards.

<< Is that how you bacame a golden member? >>

are you accusing gonad of being a nef?

<< What is up with these stupid insults. Do you think it's really gonna hurt my feelings? >>

no one was insulting or trying to hurt your feelings. our initial retorts were our personal summarizations of creative in one phrase. it appears you took them to heart and started dishing out "idiot" labels.

<< I live in U.S.A. just remember that. >>

was that directed at gonad? he lives in the USA too.

<< And what is up with all these lynch mobs who hate Creative. If you hate Creative don't buy and that's all. Stop whining to me that their driver sucks. >>

when you post on a public forum, a response is to be expected.

Oh no, he knows where I live now!

Seriously EMAN, you were coming off as more than just a touch arrogant in your posts, so you have to expect some shots taken at you. Nothing personal.

How was I being arrogant? I mention Creative Labs and you just jump at my throat and make stupid comments.

Let it rest, EMAN. If they think that Creative doesn't have a chance then so be it. You're not going to change their opinion on the subject, so, let it go.

Right here buddy:

"Yes trivial, it's really the person who installed the sound card is at fault."

In fact that statement pretty much sparked all of the other arguments in this thread so please don't act like it didn't happen and that you don't know anything about it.

Firstly about creative's chances, I think they could (as long as the hardware is powerful enough) easily get themselves a stepping in the graphics card market. They made a very shrewd decision re-entering the graphics card market now by selling GF3/4 Ti cards so that the market channels are ready to accept creative labs graphics cards.

As to the argument of driver support, etc., I really think it will depend on how much a 3D labs graphics chip this will be opposed to a creative labs chip. If its just creative by name and it is a 3D labs chip aimed at the consumer market and they are doing all the work behind it, it could be a success. If its just creative labs technicians playing around with some of the 3D labs designs then I think success is less likely.

In my opinion, creative labs does have possibly one of the worst driver release records in the industry and even S3 do a better job.
If it wasn't for Windows XP being released, I doubt that creative would have ever released a new set of Windows 2000 drivers when they did which had pretty much all the compatibility bugs fixed. As far as Windows 9x/ME goes, if its not fixed and working now, I doubt it will ever be.

(edit: gramatical error)

BFG, I'm not even going to bother with you. If you thought that meant all people than you need to get your head examined.

I got a feeling that whatever card they initially produce is gonna be a lot like those new SiS cards, performance-wise. High numbers but not much else, to appeal to the OEM crowd. It's just too competitive to get a performance game card chip from scratch, which is what they will practiacally be doing. I think that the next 12-18 months will be pretty much dominated by Nvidia and ATI. Hopefully we will see the next big thing when Matrox gets the Parahelia out and maybe even gets the performance decent while SiS does the same with their new Xabre line and maybe we'll even see something new with Kyro. Give it another year for the now minor players to catch up and I think the graphics industry will get interesting again.

Rand, I don't know about you...... but I have a feeling that a lot of these people don't like creative labs......

In fact, many of them seem to forget about 3dlabs altogether, and just spend time bashing creative......

Well, I guess that means more sweet assed 3Dlabs gaming cards for us and the other non dense people.

My CL Sb Live! 5.1 drivers suck ASS, but that doesn't make me any less excited about 3dlabs.

I too have had great "luck" with Creative drivers.
Using many different VIA base chipsets from SS7 to socket A.
All problems solved by moving cards to different slots.
But, I do know that this is the exception and not the rule.
Based on the feedback here alone, and you can see problems must be rampant.
If the thing worked for most, then most would like the idea of Creative and video cards, right?
Although I had no problems with SB Live, I am happy to now be using onboard audio that is not Creative based.

Drivers.
Once 3dfx abandoned Creative, Creative still had techs working on drivers for the V2.
These were far better than what 3dfx was able to produce, and had advanced features.
While I can't recall all the features, I believe they were able to get close to 24/32bit 3d with the V2.

Will a Creative video card sell well?
Just take a look at Kyro2 for one way to go about things.
Many here were saying how great the card was, and since it was priced low, many bought it (and the hype).
Originally was to be a GF Ultra Killer.
Now, months later, it is easy to see that the card was in fact nowhere close to the card many raved about.
In the end, it compared only to a GF2 MX to GF2 GTS, and then it faded away. No more Kyro support.
Hype sells at first, but it takes a lot to maintain the hype.

Drivers for nvidia are some of the best.
Endless loop and crash to desktop is so rare, that it is not an issue. Take to a real tech to correct ;)

I think the card will be as good as Kyro was...and as over-hyped and fan-boy'ed

I had a Creative Labs SBLive!. It took so dam* long for them to fix the drivers that by the time it's problems in games out waited my patience, I ended up with a Santa Cruz. It took around 8 months for them to actually admit there was a problem. At least nVidia doesn't do that. Oh, and well, thank goodness my Santa Cruz hasn't had a single issue since it was built into the PC a year ago.

And I also have to temper that statement with "and as well as the original Geforce did" in the hardware/driver support/compatibility" as nVidia did. I love nVidia now, they just weren't as well supported (like Glides install base) as they were then.
