Nice price, but if you're going for Vista I suggest you stay away from creative right now. Thier driver updates are few and bad.

Thanks! In for one, been looking for a good deal on the FPS w/ face plate for a while. 🙂

And ya, if you're into gaming, don't use Vista. Its not just Creative, its every piece of hardware that will allow you to play more than Vista Solitaire Xtreme 64.

I seem to recall seeing a review comparing WinXP, WinVista, and a Linux version (the one before Ubuntu 6.10).

Vista actually did the best for gaming, in some cases it wasted Linux.....however, except for gaming Linux was faster in most cases.

My $.02

Hmmm most reviews I've seen in games that can actually run in Vista show them running 5-10% slower. Might be different with ATI cards, but there's a thread daily over in Video asking when "working" nVidia drivers will be released for Vista. SLI is also broken across the board in Vista and will be for some time.

There's 2 problems with Vista right now, 1) mfgs are scrambling to get Vista-capable drivers for older hardware parts and 2) older games may or may not be able to run in Vista ever. Some people have found workarounds that involve messing around in the registry, but in almost all cases the games run significantly worst.

Getting working drivers, much less equally performing drivers is no small task even for the giants like nVidia and Creative and its only going to be worst for the more obscure names out there. I'm holding off on Vista until there's actually a reason to make the move: DX10 games.

Welp, heres the review I'm talking about.... LINK

PAGE 3 has Quake4 and UT2004 benchmarked...Vista seems to do ok against XP and Linux.... but I do realize this is only 1 review, 1 graphics card, 2 games at a certain setting, and one PC....but its still data.

Regardless... I like some of the comparisions....and comments.

Enjoy the read regardless....

Deal is back until 3/6 if the OP wants to update thread title.

Saw the updated rebate when I went to print out my rebate from the President's Day sale rebate. Love it so far, nice upgrade from my Audigy 2 and the face plate offers nice connectivity options.

Only complaints are there's not that much clearance in the back for 3.5mm to RCA splitters so its a tight fit and I can't get the console to show up in the start-up bar.
