Creative SB Audigy + 2.1 Speakers = a waste?

Creative SB Audigy + 2.1 Speakers = a waste?

I'm just wondering if high quality 5.1 speakers are necessary to fully appreciate the Audigy sound cards. Will you be able to hear the sound quality difference with lets say ACS-33 ~24W RMS speakers? Or will they all sound the same with this setup.

My current sound is Creative CT-5880 onboard sound chip.

I would say the difference might be noticeable, but just barely.

Also, if you listen to music rather than have a total focus on gaming, I would consider the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (TBSC) card instead of the Audigy. I have been using an Audigy for a few months, and have been happy with it. Then I happened upon a TBSC for next to nothing, so for the hell of it I installed that in place of the Audigy, just to compare. I didn't think there'd be much of a difference, but the TBSC clearly sounds better than the Audigy. I wish I would have just bought the Santa Cruz and skipped the Audigy. However, the Audigy was an improvement over my Aureal Vortex2 card, and would be an improvement over any on-board sound. BTW, my speakers are Altec 641's, which are the best multimedia speakers you can get for under $300.

Im sitting here listening to my Klipsch 2.1 Promedias, jacked into my SB Audigy... wondering if Workin' has ever heard this. Onboard sound to these things is a sin. You can SERIOUSLY tell the difference.

I hate saying this... I really do... but if want surround... go for the Logitech z560's.

If you want sound *quality* get the Klipscheis. You wont regret it. I dont. Logitech can chew on me %#^@ and #&^#@ till I @&#@!

The Audigy and Santa Cruz comparison always comes up and the truth is for playing MP3s the Cruz is slightly better but for gaming the Audigy is better, also many reviews I`ve read where they have both cards in head to head give this opinion as well.

As to your question even with 2.1 speakers it will sound good if they are decent quality, remember you can always add another two speakers later for 4:1 sound which`s what I`ve got, would I swap my Audigy for a Santa Cruz? No way!.. to me the sound quality on the Audigy is excellent but I`m a hardcore gamer so for gaming it`s the tops in sound cards 🙂.

optimistic, if you stick w/ the audigy, you also gain a Firewire port, not sure if you need it, but a nice bonus 🙂
