The Zen is incredible. I've had mine for about three weeks, and I absolute love it. Sound quality is incredible, I love the navigation, and the unit just seems incredibly well built. I highly, highly recommend it. There's no question that the ipod is smaller and looks cooler, and if they were the same price, I'd get an iPod. But there is absolutely no reason to pay twice as much for an iPod. The Zen is very small, and it's awesome!

Damn. They charge tax in CA. :(

I was thinking about picking one of these up from Amazon a while back for $250 AR, but they raised the price. Looks like HIFI might also be a good choice. Is there any way to check if their locations have the Nomad in stock?

Several of my friends have ordered Nomad's recently, and it seems like there's a big supply problem. When I ordered from Amazon (way back in the beginning), it says "Ships in 2-3 weeks," and I received my order in about a week. But I have friends who ordered shortly after that, and STILL haven't received theirs. Seems like creative didn't really prepare for this very well.

But still, the player rocks :)

Received mine from the Amazon $299 deal a few weeks ago.

The unit is pretty solid, slightly larger than I expected (and compared to the IPod). Its roughly the size and weight of Two 12.5mm 2.5" HDs stacked on top of each other.
The scroll-press button is 'a la Sony style'. Menus are pretty easy to navigate, and as ATers confirmed in the above posts, the sound is excellent compared to my friend's Ipod. The only gripe is, the Zen does not act like a FireWire Hard Drive when plugged into the computer unlike its USB cousin, the Creative MuVo. You must transfer files through Creative's Jukebox program.

Best of all, the Zen supports International MP3 UTF Name Tags, and I believe its the only player in the market capable of doing so. I tried it with some Japanese and Chinese MP3s and the characters are correctly displayed. Make sure you set the language as 'English - International' to display the characters correctly.

However, be warned that Creative's rebate fulfillment procedures (Stillwater, Okla.) can be quite unpleasant. From what I have heard from FW, make sure you photocopy everything, even the envelope. Send your rebate via Priority Mail, w/ delivery confirmation, and keep your USPS receipt and tracking slip. Do not use Certified Mail since its mailed to a mailbox, and no one will sign for it.

Edited for speeling [sic] ;)

Deal still on?

I see it listed @ $332.49, and there is the $50 MIR from creative, but I don't see any mention of a $50 IR... Can anyone clear this up for me? I'd love to compare this to the 20GB iPod I already own.

ZooOYorK33: Nope, it has a built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery.
