Sorry about the SUPER slow response. I am currently out of the country and lets just say Europe's Internet access is crap. Not like when I go to Asia and you can trip over 20 LAN centers on the way to the foodcourt. No internet in the hotels here either. Anyway to the Zen

Just to add my comments. I travel ALOT on very long flights. Infact neither of these players batts will last even half the flight but anyway. I have a ZEN and would not travel without it anymore. Some of the reasons I chose the Zen.

So how long do the batteries on the Zen last?

With a little but of playing around, adjusting volume occationaly, selecting a few playlists etc. I am getting about 11 hours of batt life. This would go down if you were skipping tracks or using any buttons so the BL comes on.

Uses a regular lappy drive. If I want to upgrade to a 60 gig drive NP.. just pop a new one in and the bios says "humm new drive.. Ok formating for use..." No messing around with hacks to upgrade.

Your joking right? So to increase the size of the HD in it, i could just take it apart and put any Laptop HD in it? Cool.

Yes you are correct get the 60 gig drive and drop it in. Thats it takes about 20 minutes. The bios is smart about new drives.

I tried to IPOD and was very Impressed with the package and player but think the Zen is a better price to product. Also tried te RIO, don't even ask, in its defence though the interface was rock.

I think that iPod`s, while great products, are vastly overpriced for what they offer.
What do you mean by the interfaces on the Rio`s? Do you like the interfaces? or hate them?

Thats what I was trying to say. I have no complaints about the ipod. I just feal the price to product ratio is better on the Zen. The NX version from what I see will even make this better. As for my Rio experience I should have been specific. I had a Rio Riot. The HD based player. The player was crap. I mean the worst part was if you left it off for like 3-4 days the batts were dead. WTF... But the interface on the player was really good I liked it better then the ZEN or Ipod.

I have, at the moment a Rio600 32mb (i know, small), and am heavily considering using my entire next pay check on a new MP3 player. I would like a HD baced one for two reasons, more songs, and while i`ll probably use no more than gig of space on it, i can use the rest of the space as a place to store backups. Which`ll be handy. But i cant decide wether to get a Zen NX, cos i only have USB1 at the moment, and i can use the firewire on my Audigy for high speed transfers with it, or not bother with a HD player, and get a 256mb MuVo.

As for whoever was asking about the USB 2.0 vs firewire version. I would suggest the USB2.0 version. Looks like creative is updating that bios more often. You can also do like I did and pick up one of the USB2.0 cards at Fry's $10 for IOgear with a $10MIR so it was free after 6 months lol.

Also one of the big reasons I chose the Zen was the NotMad software do your self a favor and check it out if you have any creative player.

Alot of people here would take offence to that comment.
I live in Europe. UK to be exact and my internet has always been fine.
Even whilist on holiday, i was able to hook up my Psion to the phone lines and get internet access through that. It depends where you go really.

own both??? damn that's a lot of money :)

i dunno, the inclusion of a remote, and the slim factor is a big plus for me... but again, that's for me.

How heavy is the Zen and iPod?
Not in grams, like compared to other stuff.
Cos imo, if a player is too light, then i`d be always checking if its still there in my pocket. But if its too heavy, its likely to rip that pocket off my jacket.

Can the Firewire on the iPod be used with the Firewire port on the Audigy1?

Well I must be close to you then, In Manchester right now. I guess I was more referring to the availability of Wireless or wired broadband access here. Didn't mean to say all the quality was crap. Just the ability for people not living here to access it. I was probably spoiled by traveling 80% of the last three years in Asia. Sorry no offence

LOL I spent like 5 minutes trying to figure out something that weighs the same as the ZEN while bouncing it in my hand. The closest I could up with was about a little more then half a can of coke. However, the new NX is supposed to be like a little more then half of that weight.

And yes the Firewire version can be used on the Audigy cards. They are standard IEEE1394 connections, and I have done it as well.
