Amazon has the Creative 10 gig Nomad Jukebox for $229 with a $50 mail-in rebate, bringing it down to $179.99 shipped free. This is a really great unit. You can get the Archos 20 gig for about the same price, but the functionality of the creative is much better.

The Jukebox is slightly larger but weighs less than the Archos, and can play formats besides mp3 (and can be upgraded to future formats).

The Archos is a fantastic deal for the money. If they would have built in the ability to upgrade to future formats, I think it would have caught on a lot faster.

Also, the audio quality on the Nomad Jukebox is dreamy - atleast compared to the tinny sounds from my iPod :D

But look at the battery life! 4 hours? Ugh. i would have to re-charge nightly. Im still leaning towards the SlimX or RioVolt. Its a bit more rugged, the batteries last 2.5 times longer and the media can switch between my car stereo and portable CD player pretty darn easily.

I guess the ability to have 20x the music stored in one place is nice, but i need battery life damn it!

I got the check from my last amazon rebate in about 3 weeks, about half the time for other rebates. Not bad at all.

As for battery life: You can use any nimh batteries you want. I recommend using higher capacity batteries.

I own the Archos and it rules. It can be upgraded ala firmware, so I'd imagine that it has some flexability. :) Also the battery lasts my entire shift at work! You can't beat that!

Oh and I got the RioRiot first, now that is a big piece of crap with a great lcd. Even after patching it, the songs it transferred were half cut off and skipped all over the place. I took it back and got the Archos.

The archos has no support for non-mp3 formats, and you will never be able to download firmware that will make that happen. Their next players may, but for now, they aren't licensing anything.
