I don't know if the rest of you saw this in the Best Buy add this week, but they have a Creative Labs Modem Blaster PCI Flash 56 for $14.99. It also has a $10 mail in rebate, so the final price comes to something like $6.31 after tax and rebate (NY state tax). If you are looking for a cheap modem to put in a system, Creative Labs aren't too bad, and for $6, seams like a deal to me!

I know the picture in their advertisement was a Creative Modem Blaster box, but if you read the fine print, it says it is a DSI brand (i.e. generic). It still may be a good deal, but be warned it probably isn't a Creative. Although Bestbuy may have to sell you the Creative model since the ad could be construed as "Bait and Switch". Might be worth a shot.

Creative bought DSI some time ago- about the same time as they bought Ensoniq. Generally, the DSI products are somewhat to extremely inferior, and use much cheaper, lower-performing chipsets.

OK, just got back from Best Buy here in Buffalo, NY. The Modem IS the Creative Labs Modem Blaster PCI. Unfortunately, the chipset is Conexant, but for $6 I am not complaining. Best of luck to the rest of you!

Yep, just picked mine up today. So far it is working. Great deal, because I blew out my modem and I in a few months my city gets high speed access. I just needed something to hold me over until then.

I have used quite a few of these cheapo conexant chip set modems. My experience is that if you have a fast enough computer with MMX, at least over 200 MHz, these will work OK. If your computer is over 400 MHz, these work good for the price.

I bought one for $39 a year ago and have been disappointed... I wanted it for telephony only and wanted to use the TAD connection to the sound card... never really worked right on Win2000 ... bummer... wish I could have bought it for $6!!!

Can anyone else confirm problems with the TAD connection under Win2k? It's funny, because you would think Creative products would be able to work together well (I have a SBLive with TAD-in).

Anyone else installed this card and had this problem under Win2k?

I don't know what you're complaining about.. I got a DSI modem (pretty much the same thing as the Creative counterpart), in fact you can find the drivers on the creative website. I've had this DSI 56k for like 6 months now and it works great. No problems what-so-ever! And it works great on an overclocked system.

bought this modem from fry's a while back when it was $20 after rebate. it isn't that good of a modem. i was getting low connections speeds and i have a t-bird 700@900 so it isn't the system either. Actually, the fasteest modem i have ever owned was the modem i continue to use today....my USR v.34 sportster 28.8. i would say, if you really want fast connection speeds, save up some more money and go buy an OEM 3com modem.....

Did anyone here get this to work at all in Win2k or winME?

Here is the driver page, but there are no win2k or ME drivers at all. This isn't on the HCL list for win2k or ME either.

This guys page says that there is a win2k support page, but I can't get it to work. Scroll down and look under Creative Labs/Digicom. I can't get either page to load. Anyone else get it to work?

PG - I have it running on Win ME. Using that 'TAD' cable. Ok. it was working for a while. Really nice.. have my good speakers up and running for everything but when I dialed out to the internet, my headset with mic which I plugged into the card would take over.

However.. in less than 48 hours, everything stopped worked. It is acting as a modem now. Not sure what happened. Norton detected tons of errors on my drive for some reason so that may be the real cause.. but I didn't load anything onto it except the drivers.

Still an excellant modem. No speed problems.

Sorry to hear it is backordered. I would offer to go pick up a few for people on the forums, but since the city of Buffalo is in the process of digging ourselves out of this horendous snow storm, I think that the sale will be over by the time I get there... :) Good luck to the rest of you!
