Sounds cool. The only thing I don't care for is that it takes a "button" battery. But not a deal breaker, it would be handy to be able to fast forward or fast rewind the DVD in you computer hooked to your TV, without having to get over to the computer.
edit: 99.44% sure its IR, RF went out with the '80's.

Flatbroke,

I am a little lacking on button terminology, What is a button battery? I had assumed it was the same type of battery used for power a PC's bios when it wasnt powered on.

Looks like a good deal to me...but I think my serial port is already being occupied by my UPS link...I'll have to check if I have another port, this would be kinda cool.

I was looking for a gizmo like this. The other serial/multimedia remotes out there (there are a couple) are pretty clunky and don't have XP drivers. Hopefully it'll work with the next iteration of Windows media player and other software. It probably emulates keystrokes, so as long as they keep the keyboard commands the same, it's a safe bet.

I ordered one... (now how much is the battery gonna cost? Maybe I can steal it from my old motherboard :)

flatbroke, this isn't true. Most of the better wireless products are RF and not IR. IR (infrared) is line-of-sight and you must not have anything obstructing the base receiver. RF, also known as radio frequency, does not have the line-of-sight limitation.

With that said, I don't know for a fact which category this remote falls into. However, since the title for the hot deal is "Creative Labs Serial Multimedia IR Remote Control for PC," I would guess that it is infrared. Most wireless products that connect to the serial port are infrared, so this stands to reason.

Actually, this would make a really good techie birthday present! And since shipping is relatively high, I should get an extra one.

Does anyone know how to cancel a Sunday-afternoon order (if possible)?

I actually have this exact remote, except for the fact that it is built into a creative cd-rom drive: http://www.svcompucycle.com/creat52xincd.html

for what its worth it is a very nice remote and works pretty good. I need to reinstall the software though because it didnt work after the win xp sp1 update. The software seems to be a bit odd though. During certain games such as Morrowind it seems to freak out by having the remote icon pop up on the screen over and over. The best way to stop this is to just shut down the program before playing the games. It does seem to have a good range and is pretty good for chilling in your bed and fooling around with winamp. It is kind of annoying because you have to switch to the exact window you want to control through the remote but is fairly easy once you get the hang of it. Good deal for someone looking for a little control for their system in my mind.

It looks like that's because "underhere.com" bought them all and is now selling them on eBay for a $6 profit each :(

now only if my Live 5.1+ card from creative would stop making the crackling sounds, i'd put further investment into this POS.
Creative refuses to fix this bug of theirs
