I'm thinking of getting the Creative Labs CDRW 12/10/32 (about $140) but I know that there are two versions of this drive out there. The older one comes w/ Burn-Proof, the other comes with NERO. What is NERO? Also, a quick search for "Burn Proof" on Pricewatch brought up a drive made by "Lite-On" w/ the same specs. Anyone have any luck with these drives?

Craetive CDRW's are not that good.. You can find a much better burner for $140..

Look at the Plextor 12x8x32 (I think that's the right speeds). I believe it will be close to the price you're looking at.

Nero is a program, like CD Creator, used to burn cd's. Very nice. It's what I use.

Thanks for your help guys. i appreciate the input. But I'm not sure about something. I did some research and I think that "Burn Proof" is proprietary software that was developed by Sanyo, which is why I was confused about the NERO designation. Do all you guys with NERO have drives that say it comes with Burn Proof? Also, there seems to be some resistance about getting a Creative labs CDRW. Any other suggestions? What is very stable, and cheap? (emphasis on cheap).

I swear by Nero. i have an HP drive, doesnt have burn proof, and i have NO problmes with buffer underruns. nero has never reported a buffer under 97%, and i can do anything short of opening a game (even tried to watch a divx movie once, didnt have enough CPU power :))
