Creative Labs advises X-Fi users who suffer from crackling or popping noises that card produces in some hardware configurations.
According to their review of shipments and reported problems
99.9% cards work fine. With 0.1% they see a link between crackling and the fact that some graphics introduce as much as 0.6ms latency to the bus. This results in an extra wait of 22,200 cycles for the sound card (0.66x33Mhz)..
Myself I do not have these crackles but if your X-Fi crackles have a read HERE
