Creative Labs does NV30 - Interview

Now that's putting me in a really difficult position because as you know NVIDIA are pretty consistent with their "we don't talk about unreleased product" position but here is what I think I am safe in saying ? (bear in mind I have seen specs and simulations not actual hardware). Based on what I've seen NV30 will retake the performance crown from ATI by a significant amount. Obviously I can't comment on clock speed etc. but its fair to say that we should see a significant jump based on the fact that NV30 is on 0.13 and 9700 Pro squeezed every last cycle out of 0.15.

I wonder how long it will take ATI to shrink their R300 to .13. I don't expect it to be an easy task.

well we know that 9700 can get to 400MHz pretty easily which is a good jump.

This said, the R300 was released 6 months after the NV25 and stole the performance crown by a significant margin. If the NV30 Doesn't take the performance crown back by a large margin I'll be very surprised.

To my knowledge, ATi and nVidia don't rely on the same sources (TSMC) to produce their chips. Am I right? I get the impression that ATi will have a .13mu part ready for Xmas (RV300) or definitely by Spring 03 (R350).
