Since I have seen some DVD drive posts today, I thought I would let everyone know about this. Mercata has the Creative Labs Encore DVD 12x DVD 40x CD with the DXR3 Decoder Card for $199.99. When you use the MSN Passport at checkout you get that 20% off deal which comes to $160.00 + shipping. This is a hot deal for this drive. Onvia has this drive for over $200.00.

DVD Drive

Ok, well now I feel like a jerk, apparently the price at buy.com is 167.95. I saw it at onvia for over 200 and figure buy.com hadn't dropped their price yet either. I will check that out on my next deal sorry. Buy.com has free shipping right now so if you use a 15 off 150 for existing customers, you can pick this up for $152.95. Mercata now has this drive on a Powerbuy and the price keeps dropping, maybe mercata is the way to go now.

Don't forget to use ebates for an even better deal.

Tried to fix your link without session ids but couldn't get it to work. Here is the item number at mercata #245747201, just search for this and it will take you right to it.

Seems like a pretty decent deal to me. I've been looking for a Dxr3 card w/ drive recently, will jump on this.

Check out the specs from Mercata's page:
Transfer data at up to 6,000 KB per second with average access time of 110 minutes.

That's fast!

thanks for the deal

probegt21,
hehe you caught me. I actually work all day and *occassionally* check in on the new hot deals. I don't know what's wrong with me, ever since I found this forum I've been addicted. Luckily it came at a time when I was building a new comp anyways so a lot of the purchases I have made will go to good use. Yep, I did buy that ELSA card, I can't wait to put my computer together and see how it runs some team fortress classic. Should be sweet!

Not true.....Buy.com has the CL DVD Kit 12X for $167. Use one of their coupons and free shipping, then the Buy.com purchase is a better deal.

Well, if you have any mercata dollars left, it's $128 + tax + s/h... that's a great deal

Sorry floridaboy. I didn't verify. I had seen it about a week ago and figured it hadn't dropped. I modified the message.

I have this setup right now on my computer, if I had to do it over again I'd go with a standalone dvd player as it cost about the same price. Don't get me wrong, the quality of the tv out on the dxr3 is excellent, just like a regular dvd player, but the dvd playback quality on a monitor is not as good as using software decoders since the card requires a vga-pass through cable which may affect your picture not only for that but for everything else. Because of that and since the price of standalone dvd players has dropped so low, I'd go with a standalone player if you just want to use it to watch on your tv. However, if you only plan on using your computer monitor to watch and your cpu and video card are not powerful enough, this package would be a good fit for you.

uh, why not just spend the same amount of money and get a dvd player? it's a lot more convenient having it in your living room. aside from laptop owners, who really watches dvds on PCs? it doesn't make any sense. if you wanna watch dvd in a tiny window while you work, why even watch dvd.

FYI, the decoder card has TV-out to connect to TV. And some video cards also have TV-out. I have a PC in living room, so I can watch DVD and VCD on my TV.

And, I can also watch MPEG-4, real video and whatever format movies on my big screen TV. I can also play games on my TV. A dvd player cannot do that.

Well, now I see a brand name DVD player is under $100, and no name player is only $50. I think it doesn't hurt to get a dvd player.
