Creative DXR3 Problems...

I have the Creative PC-DVD Encore 6x package with the DXR3 Decoder board and lately it's been giving me blue screens of death a couple minutes (sometimes a couple seconds) into playback. I've tried updating the drivers available on the Creative Labs website, but I'm still getting the same problems.

Any ideas?

Have you changed anything in your system recently (either software or hardware)?

If you physically remove the Dxr3 card from your system (and uninstall the drivers), does the problem persist? Have you tried completely removing the drivers for the board and then have Windows redetect it?

Hmm. I did what you suggested and it's worked so far. I'll give my DVD collection a whirl and see if it acts up in any specific title.

Thanks for you help, I appreciate it.

Ehh. Still giving me the same problems with a couple discs, but I haven't tried them all yet...

I get the normal blue screen of death and the specific line:

ERROR: 0D : 0028 : C002BCC1

Just so that I know, is the Dxr3 card currently in the system, or has it been physically removed? I'm just not sure which of my two suggestions you tried.

I removed the card, booted the system, uninstalled the software/drivers, deleted any registry entries, reinstalled the card and software/drivers.

How many DVD's is this problem affecting? Could there be something in common with all of the non-working DVD's (such as a different region code)?

I've gotten the blue screen on a variety of titles. I'm pretty sure all my DVDs are Region 1, since I haven't bought any of them overseas or anything.

Things seem to work just fine after the initial blue screen error. I guess I'll just have to deal with it...?

What DVD player software are you using? Have you tried reinstalling that? How about using a different player?

I'm using the Creative PC-DVD software that came with the drive and decoder card. I have PowerDVD and XingDVD and both of them work fine, but they don't take advantage of the DXR3 card. I only have an AMD K6-400, so software playback is a little choppy...

Well, I think we can safely say the problem lies with the Dxr3 card (in some form or another), since software playback doesn't produce the error.

The Dxr3 card is based on the Sigma Designs Hollywood Magic DVD decoder card. It's possible that using a driver for that card might solve the problem. But I'm not sure if that will work at all.

Other than that, I can't think of anything new to try. If I come up with anything, I'll let you know.
