You don't need a 9pin. Just use a regular 4 pin, if it fits, it should work fine.

That's interesting. I'm pretty sure the DXR3 I had had a 9pin SVideo out as well. I used a standard 4pin cable and it worked fine. What brand Geforce 3 do you have?

Yea, it was the DXR3 here's the best picture I could find of it:

DXR3

The round connector between the VGA plug and SPDIF plug is the SVideo out which if you look at closely has quite a few more than 4.

Edit again, the DXR3 has a 7pin SVideo plug, not 9.

Some of those cards that have breakout boxes or splitter cable dongles that attach to their TV-in/out ports, use non-standard "S-Video" plugs. Look carefully, sometimes the plastic key has a different orientation.

I can't find my DXR3, but I did find my DXR2 and it has the same 7pin SVideo output. The plastic key is on the top as opposed to the 4 pin which is on the bottom. I took a screwdriver and cracked off the key in one of my 4 pin cables and it works fine.

And it works great for you???

Cause of that plastic key it won't let me plug in.

Yea, it works fine. I've never seen a 9pin though, make sure the 4 pins that are on a standard cable are in the proper spots on the 9 pin.

I'll try it as soon as I get my G3 back lol. I just switched it for my friend's Elsa Gladiac 920 G3 card that comes with a standard S-VIDEO. Haven't tried playing back DVDs yet as I have to finish recording NASCAR race for some individual :| grrrrrrrrr.

Thanks for help :)!

With video cards, the DVD is read, then has to be reformatted to display properly on your monitor which almost always means resizing the picture as no one runs 720x480 on a computer. Then the TV-out chip has to convert the picture from a progressive monitor output to an interlaced TV output which always messes with the colors and causes bluriness. 2 unwanted conversions is never better than none.

Good explanation...but that's not how the Radeon handles the signal at all. The Radeon's dongle reprograms the RAMDAC to output a Y/Pb/Pr signal. The output is selectable and my limited knowlege of HDTV signals tells me that 480p, 540p and 720p resolutions are Progressive scan, not interlaced signals (it also supports 480i and 1080i resolutions, which are interlaced)

Also Anand's actual quote is "the picture quality was quite impressive with 480p output enabled. We were looking at the best PC output we had ever seen on a TV." Video quality is certainly subjective, but I would venture to say he has seen his share of "PC output" <-- Note, far more than me for sure. I believe what he was seeing, looked pretty good.

My suggestion was to go buy a standalone to be honest, if you read my post, and certainly the dongle needs some work....and the H+ does have nice output if you can live with its limitations.

Yeah.... I looked at the image quality out of the G3 card and it was OK. Wasn't the best but certainly wasn't the worst. I decided I'm gonna get a standalone.
Any thoughts on which standalone is good and fairly priced? I want something that supports DTS.

Thanks :).
