Creative DVD conflict w/everything?

I reinstalled 98se three times yesterday and it killed itself three times! Everytime i finished the full installation and finished installing all my drivers except for the creative dvd drive, and then when i put the creative dvd drivers in, it gives me a illegal operation. Then i restart my computer and once it's restarted, it gives me the "For settings to take effect please restart computer" and if i click yes, it just keeps givin me the message everytime i restart, if i click no, both my plextor 12x and my creative dvd dont exist. THen there's nothing I can do to fix it, and then I have to reinstall windows again. How do I solve this problem? I have installed windows SE into my computer before and this has never happened. Could it have anything to do w/the dvd decoder? Please help.

well i have had My creative 5X DVD for 2 years and been though an installation of almost every OS you can think of(win 95,98, 98SE, ME, over 10 betas for win2k, win2k server, adv server, and pro, Linux, DOS 6.22, and BeOS) Out of all of them except DOS i did not need to load any drivers and it had worked flawlessly. And in dos i just loaded the DOS drivers and then it worked fine.
