warm deal at www.ussa.com

NEC Zip Internal $34
Creative Labs 12x DVD $71
shipping $26.20
--------------------------------
$131.20

If you don't want the zip, the DVD alone shipped is $86.20

they take you to task on the shipping, but still seems a decent deal.

also have a generic 10x dvd for $55

looks like there are some decent deals. Has anyone ever heard of this place? Is it reputable/reliable?

isn't AccessMicro rated quite low in the resellerr@ting ?
the drive is actually 16x but not worth the problem doing business with them

I have ordered from AccessMicro in the past and not had any trouble. About the only big trouble I have had on the net was with BZBoyz/TuffShop when they, along with $600 of my money, were going through a "reorganization". I had to file with my credit card company on that one.

I recently purchased the Toshiba 12x DVD from Buy.Com. I saw on a board, maybe here I cant remember, that the Pioneer 16x runs pretty hot and is loud. Has anyone else heard that?

I have the 10x Slot Pioneer DVD drive and it works great for me. Real quiet and not a hiccup.

Do not buy Creative drives if you value performance and reliability.

can anyone explain the difference between a slot DVD and a tray loaded one? Are those even the right kinds. I thought there were two different Pioneers and people liked one of the other because of something like this. I'm totally clueless when it comes to DVD players so if anyone has a link to a good webpage about em, that would be much appreciated as well. Thanks, -Stony

For those of you in the Bay Area, save yourself the shipping costs and drive down there to pick up your stuff. I've dealt with them before. They charge a $5 warehouse fee, not too big a deal considering they have really good prices on most items.

With the slot load DVD drives, you load a CD/DVD into the drive simply by putting it into the slot in the drive, like the way a car CD player works. Tray load DVD drives are comparable to the standard CD-ROM drives, where you push the button on the front of the drive to eject the tray, place the CD onto the tray, and then close the tray to put the CD in the drive.
