A lawyer defending a man accused of burglary tried this creative defense:

"My client merely inserted his arm into the window and removed a few trifling articles. His arm is not himself, and I fail to see how you can punish the whole individual for an offense committed by his limb." "Well put," thejudge replied. "Using your logic, I sentence the defendant's arm to one year's imprisonment. He can accompany it or not, as he chooses." The defendant smiled. With his lawyer's assistance he detached his artificial limb, laid it on the bench, and walked out.

Can't be true. Common Law stipulates all your limbs are your responsibility, even the prosthetics.

But as a joke,

Wow, thanks for ruining a perfectly good joke by pointing out the obvious. You are oh so smart!

My two sentences ruined it for you? You're very easily influenced then.

That was your comeback? When did the effect of a comment rely on it's length or lackthereof?

"Your mother died."

Would that ruin your day?

I was refering more to the power of my words. I had no idea me pointing out the obvious would automatically ruin the joke for you. I apologize.
