Hello. This is my first visit to these forums. I was driven here by the fact that Creative's "tech support" doesn't seem to know anything about the hardware that they sell, so I am crossing my fingers in hopes that someone here might be able to shed some light on the problems that I am running into with my Audigy 2 NX...

In a nutshell, it won't install.

I have tried to install it on 2 different machines with Windows2000 and its most recent updates to no avail. In both instances, I followed the instructions included with the NX in connecting the device. However, once hooked up, I get the following error message:

An error occurred during the installation of the device

the installation failed because a function driver was not
specified for this device instance.

To close this wizard, click Finish.

From what I read, I was supposed to select Cancel, and then install the device drivers using the Installation disk included. There was no option to select Cancel, only Finish.

In the Devices the item "USB Device" is listed with an "!" beside it, and it says Error 28. Device drivers not installed. I have tried everything that I can think of but i cannot force it to take the drivers.

I have had this same problem on both computers that I attempted to install it on. As mentioned above, both are Windows2000 systems with all critical updates installed.
The current systam I am attempting install for is as follows:

Athlon AMD 2400+
GeForce Ti4600 128 RAM
ECS K7S5A Pro w/ 512 DDR RAM
50X CDrom Drive
120 Gig HD
Windows2000 service pack4

Please, if anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much in advance!

Are you using a unpowered external Hub or another device on the USB port?

Did you Update the Driver/Firmware?

The lastest are:
Driver - Version 1.00.0009
Firmware - Version 1.1.031209

There are fixes in them for making it USB 2.0 Compliant.

***Update***
Well, I seemed to have solved the problem.

I had a spare USB cable lying around still in its packaging, so I figured 'What the heck?' and attached it to the NX. As I was plugging it into the back of the computer I also used a different USB port than previously and Tada! it installed without a hitch.

Anyhoo, just thought i would give a small heads up in case anyone else ran into this prob. Try another cable and/or another USB port!
