Creative Audigy 2 and nightmare support

Before dropping the $ on an Intel HT CPU, I wanted to see if the issues with the Audigy 2 and HT had been addressed. My emails were ignored, so I decided to subscribe to the Creative news server to see if anyoone knew. And what I saw there absolutely disgusted me. Their official representative, a Mr. Harvey Fong, was acting in a way that I've never seen from anyone who is supposed to be helping. If you're having a problem odds are it's only a matter of time before you're dismissed as either a moron or working for the competition. He calls people names, deliberately baits them into flamewars, and generally acts like nothing more than a commonn troll. I've had bad support before. I've been given wrong information, given the runaround, and totally ignored. But never have I seen anything like this. I've been happy with my A2 up until now, but tonight it's coming out and being replaced with whatever i can find at Fry's. Rant over.

Hmm.... now i feel better that i use nforce2 audio instead of buying that audigy...

here's one... how come we don't have "competition" per se in the sound card business? we have 2 majorly big guys in the video arena, and lots of little guys, but in the sound business, just creative...

GRR i wish they had never bought aureal :|

It is extremely hard to make money in soundcards without other income to prop them up. Creative survived on name value, but Aureal couldn't do the same with soundcards as their sole business. BTW, many of those Aureal engineers ended up at nVidia.

Given the type of treatment Harvey has gotten over a long time from the hoardes of trolls that go over there with nothing to do but bash Creative, it's not hard to see why he gets sometimes like that. He is generally one of the nicest people around though, and I've been lurking on their NGs for over a year.

It is hard for him, and I believe he is hamstrung fron higher up.

As far as I can make out (since I have an Audigy 1, not an Audigy 2), the issues with HT processors have been resolved with the latest drivers that were released last week.

No offense jaeger66, but a lot of the time you have a tone and attitude that prevents people from wanting to help you.

I know, I can be an ass sometimes. OK a lot of the time, although sometimes I think people may mistake brevity for uppity-ness. 🙂 But in this case, I didn't even ask a question. I read the back posts and was simply astounded. Part of being a CS guy is knowing how to deal with people who may be upset at a product they paid money for and can't get to work. I can't imagine the people at Dell or Gateway take any less abuse, but I can't say I've heard of people being verbally abused by the rep too often. They'd be canned post-haste.

Don't let one person's behaviour turn you away from the best soundcard on the market. Talk about cutting off your nose. I mean, if you didn't even try to get help yourself, you don't really have a leg to stand on there...

I have principles. And my principles prevent me from supporting a company that loathes it's customers, even if only via complicity. I understand what it's like to work CS. Back in school I spent 8 hours a day listening to people scream at me. But I was paid to be above responding in kind.

As an aside, the only reason I have the A2 is for the EAX3 support and that's something I can live without. The Santa Cruz and M-Audio Revolution have better fidelity IMHO.

I have a 2.8C with HT enabled and and A2 Plat. I have no problems, however, I didn't install the card until I downloaded the new chipset drivers and bios update and disabled onboard audio. Can't speak to the CS of creative, but if you have the proper updates the card should work fine. Good luck resolving the issue.

Actually I don't even have an issue yet, I was just wondering if the known ones were resolved.

I've read some cases where people can't install the new drivers to fix the issue, because they require the original CD ones first and installing those causes a lock upon booting.

Trying out the Maya 7.1 now. I forgot how nice it was for a soundcard not to infest every nook and cranny of your system. 🙂
