I am getting very slow performance from my geforce2. I see everyone bragging and boasting of 100+, I am luck to hit 80 at the lowest possible settings. I have ppl with half the machine as me getting twice the fps.

I have PIII 800eb FC-PGA
Abit SE6 i815e
256mg PC133 Micron Memory
Creative Geforce2 GTS

I have tried every set of drivers available, I have tried every setting I can think of. IN 1024x768 in high detail the best i have seen is about 57fps.

Any ideas?

I cannot see any weaknesses in your system. I guess you are running '98. The fastest drtivers are the 5.22

what games you playing. 32 or 16bit color. make sure AGP is in 4x mode. try turning fastwrites on and off. make sure AGP arpeture is set to maximum (256mb no matter how much memory you have). what is your 3dmark score (default setting 16-bit color 1024x768)

Turn off Anti-Aliasing. Also if possible FORMAT and start off new. Don't load to much stuff on startup. Is there anything running in the background?

Let us know.

Yes, I have the same problem.
My system is a PII 450MHz Asus P2B Motherboard, 128MB PC-100 SDRAM.
3DMark 2000 gives @1024 resolution/16 bit only 3400, 3Dmark99MAX 3700.
FPS in the aforementioned resolution are for example in Tribes 40, quakeII:s timedemo on crusher 50fps, demo1.dm2 about 100fps.
Even my old Voodoo2 SLI system gives better benchmarks!
Something must be very wrong here, I've tried changing all possible video-related settings in my BIOS, Nvidias own drivers and creatives newest ones. No effect whatsoever. Also changing the resolution, color depth, FSAA on/off have no effect on performance!

The low fps is in q3a. Any resolutions and any color bit, we have tried everything at attempt at a high score. Lowest settings and everything turned off including game options on any resolution has gotten low fps. 1024x768 is around 77, the review shows 115 or something, 640x480 shows 119/120 i get like 70-80. Comparing my card to the reviews on anandtech is a joke, and thats what a friend an I have set out to try to determine why. The agp is running at 4x, I havn't been able to even enable fast writes so, there off by default, There greyed out in creatives control panel, I don't have the agp options that they had in anandtechs review under display director, and the agpwizard wouldn't install, told me I didn't have a Creative Display adapter, go figure. Where do I set the agp aperture?
I haven't installed 3dmark or even know where to find it, but I will dig it up and install it and post the score.

All anti aliasing is off, double and triple checked it, you should see how horrible the scores are with it on.

When I built this machine, I formated so that I wouldn't have any old junk lying around, and win98 likes it better when you swap so much hardware, as did I this go around.

Nothing is running out of the ordinary accept a few normal programs in the taskbar, ms sidewinder dual striker controller, logitech itouch software for my keyboard.

Its nice to see someone with the same problem, accept my friend who is having the identical problem as me, we built our new systems at about the same time, he tested his scores on his old motherboard as well, same thing. So.... Your scores in q3a demo1 are ALOT higher than ours though, we have tried every possible setting/resolution etc, all game options off, all drivers and have never seen a 100.

Yeah so far it has seemed like that, althought I fine when I ask the ol mighty one, he just doesn't seem to help much.

On the person that asked about the agp aperture size, I was informed this was in your bios, and I double checked it and I can only change it to 32 and 64.

I am downloading the massive 3dmark now. So I will post those scores soon.

Hmm...I just compared my 3dmark scores with other ones on the web...
3400 seems to be a fair score for my P2, and I haven't tested other D3D applications yet so maybe the problems with performance lie with openGL only? I still have my Voodoo2:s installed and I have openGL drivers installed for them also. Maybe there is some kind of conflict?
But dumping my voodoos won't be a good thing to do :(

Ok I am very discouraged now, I say I am going to drive to stillwater and burn down the creative plant if I don't get a resolution soon.
(kidding of course)

My mark was 2333 =( the guy below me was upset cuz his p2 got 3400, one guy on madonion.com was upset cuz his geforce2 got 4008 versus his tnt2 that got over 5000.

The fastest video card in the world aint crap to me right now, someone please help.

There within driving distance, and its extremely frustrating. So it might save me time/trouble/frustrationg. ya know everyone is bragging about the geforce2 gts, but if it performs this crappy for me, who is to say the voodoo5 is so subpar?

Hey CD, try running 3dmark with all goodies (FSAA, etc.) turned on. And then once with 32-bit color and see if there is any difference.
I have to test that too later when I get home.

Thanks for everyone that tried to help. The problem is solved.

Someone looked at my 3dmark scores and pinpointed it to low agp speeds, so he mentioned some agp drivers. Being that the i815e is fairly new, we hadn't found any. But I went to look on intel's site again, and they had 3 things, the ata controller, the onboard video and a inf pack. My friend and I had overlooked this in the beginning or it was just posted recently. I downloaded this infpack and installed it, and it updated all of my motherboard components. This opened up the agp options in display director and my fps in q3a is awesome. 111.6fps in 1024x768x16 and everything maxed out in 1024x768x32 it got about 90fps.

Here are the updated 3dmark scores:

DAMN!!!!!!! Thats a helluva gain man!

I have subpar performance too with my annihilator 2:

ASUS P3V4X - P3 550mhz - 128 pc-100 - creative annihilator 2 -

In Q3 demo1 @ 1024X768 16 bit color/32 texture all toys but v-sync on...imgetting like 65FPS! Again the reviews are like 100FPS......

If i turn everything down all the way including going to 640 x 480 resolution i get about 86FPS......i should be way over 100FPS.....

I have all the newest drivers installed from a fresh format

agp gart 4.03
via 4-n-1 4.22
nvidia reference 5.22
(older bios 1003).....but i dont think that will help much.

if i go to 32 bit/32 bit in 1024x768 with all the toys.....i lose only a few FPS from the above scores.
My 3dmark2000 score in 1024x768 16 bit color...is about 4200 is that good?

I know my cpu is a little slow......but it shouldnt slow it down that much to only get 65FPS in Q3.....

I have my agp aperture in my bios set at 64........should i increase it?
any tips for me guys........im going crazy to speed this thing up!

One thing that I noticed that affected my fps was the system/game options etc

There is a high detail sky, and some other stuff, Turn em all off and see what you can push then.

Also download a program called 3dmark. Its kinda big but it does a good bench of your card and lets someone look at the scores and determine if there is a problem somewhere. And where it might be more importantly.

http://www.madonion.com/performance/3dmark2000/

Let me know.

Well...I tried almost everything I could think of, but no significant increase in performace yet :(
I mamaged to push my 3dmark2000 scores up to 3800, but that's all.
Your problem was an AGP issue, maybe mine is too. It's running at 2x, but my BIOS hasn't got any AGP settings I could try tweaking.
I find it hard to believe that my P2 is just too slow.

BTW what was the console commands for Q3 for running timedemos:
timedemo 1
map demo0001...???

Damn, still no luck.
I ran some tests with remedy's Final Reality benchmarking program. It has an AGP speed test, and the results were strange.
First I set AGP speed to 1x using the GTS drivers. Then I tried with AGP 2x. The results were the same!
This could explain why changing resolutions doesn't affect performance at all in many games.
But there is no AGP speed setting on my MoBo (P2B) whatsoever, in BIOS or with jumpers...and it SHOULD be able to run on 2x!

With my Athlon system, I score 5644 in 3DMark2000 at default with a CL DDR GeForce. That is with AGP 4x, Fast Writes and Side Band Address mode enabled. The only Via driver that I use with Win98SE on any Via chipset board is the AGP driver. I also use the CL AGP Wizard utility, and the CoolBits registry hack. I have the GeForce clocked at 150MHz core, and 350MHz memory.

I just ran 3DMark2000 on my system and check out these very impressive scores:

My system:
PIII700@933 on P3V4X (Current BIOS and VIA drivers)
256MB PC-133 CAS-2 SDRAM
Creative Annihilator 2 GeForce (current FastTrax drivers)

THE CL2 in only running at AGP2x ... 4X seems to hang the system ... don't know why ... in Windows AGP4x works fine but for 3D it hangs. Sideband addressing and FastWrites are enables. CL2 is also running at default core/memory clock speeds. I have not OC the CL2 yet.
