Is there a way to rip a cd to mp3 via the OSX by not using iTunes and their AAC format?

I am coming from windows where I used the lame encoder and EAC. I am assuming EAC and lame are windows only and have yet to search to see if they are compatible with OSX.

You can rip CDs in MP3 with iTunes.

Just go to Preferences (Command+,) and right there on the General Tab, hit Import Settings.

If you're used to EAC, grab XLD. It does FLAC/MP3/etc. And yes, it uses LAME.

Where does iTunes put ripped mp3s? When I rip a CD I keep a copy on my fileserver for my wife and kids to use also.

Ok, I just looked in the iTunes library and the mp3s are stored in a directory structure similar to what I use on my fileserver. Artist name/Album name/Song name. I think I will try to use iTunes rather than Max next time, Max doesn't get the cddb info like CDex does. I have to type in all the info myself, including id3 info. :(

I think a lot of people try to scour the internet and look for apps to do things that are already under their nose :p.
