creating a vpn connection

I am interested in remote connecting into an established network. I think setting up a vpn is the best way to go. How would I go about doing this? It is self explanatory to set up the client side, creating a vpn shortcut, enter dest ip, etc... How do I enable a computer on the pre-existing network side to accept the connection? Help ASAP would be much appreciated.

Option 1. Connect from home to VPN Server in the office.
You have to set WinXP VPN, and if you have a Router it has to be VPN through able (I.E. it allows VPN protocol to pass),

Option 2. Connecting between two WinXP, and configuring one as a VPN Server.

Option 3. Buy a Router that is Real VPN End-Point. I.e. your Server VPN is done in hardware (look at the Linksys Routers some are VPN End Point), and configure each WinXP Client as mentioned in Option1.
