Creating a Neighborhood LAN

Well, I'm just wondering if there is a possible way to do this. Somehow use a normal router, and attach a large antenna to it, then have the other houses using something of the same effect to pick up the signal? I'm talking about sharing a LAN between about a maximum of 300 feet. I know there are security issues, but I just want to try it out.
LMK and thanks.

Using an omnidirectional antenna, and everyone else using an omni or directional would work further than that.

Walls or any line of sight obstruction will severly cut the range of the omni to omni/directional antenna.
