I've heard that Zune is actually gigabeat

I read a review on the Zune which was not too favorable. I'm looking at picking up a M 60GBer when the price drops below 2 bills.

Is it fully UMS/mass storage compliant? Any difference between the 60gb and 30gb Visions other than capacity and the USB host mode on the 60gb?

Can you just plug a unit running the latest firmware into a USB port (any computer) and have it appear as a drive or do you have to install a Creative driver on each PC you want to use it on? Is the same firmware available for the 60gb model?

I need something 30gb or larger to use primarily as a portable hard drive and music player secondarily.

I have an iAudio x5 20gb currently but I need something with a bit more capacity and, ideally, a better battery.

Buy.com also has a Coupon you can add to this to lower the price to $159.99, use a fresh Google Checkout account and lower the price by $10 more to $149.99

And they also have the Zen Vision:M 60GB for...
$279.22 - $30 MIR - $15 off $200 Coupon - $10 Google Checkout = $234.22

Cheapest on the net.

MIR's expire 2/27
$15 off $200 coupon expires 2/28

great work! seriously. I have an old school Creative Nomad Zen Xtra, and everyone in the office always asks me what that is..... funny how ipod people are so stupid lol

So the fact that they don't recognize the model of your mp3 player automatically makes them an "ipod" person and stupid?

This is no longer necessary. If you update to the latest firmware you can drag and drop anything you want from explorer.

Are you saying that it's UMS and that you can drag your mp3s over to play?

T_T, they won't let me use google checkout or even the $30 Visa sign-up with the $15 off!

Whoops looks like I over looked something...ok well you have a choice, $15 off $200 or $10 off with GC. I forgot GC doesn't work with coupons.

I won a 30 gig video iPod at my office Christmas party, immediately threw it up on eBay, got $245 for it, and bought the Creative Zen Vision:M off buy.com for $174 (google checkout). Not only did I make money off it, I got a better mp3/video player.

the compusa deal is dead and it is only reduced to $229. I just got back from the manhattan store and they did not have any in stock. We looked on the website and after adding it to cart, it was 229.

Everybody's discounting the Vision M. Amazon has it for $199.99 + free shipping.

I've never heard of an MP3 player that can have it's HD upgraded.

I put an 80 gig drive in my creative labs jukebox 3 and took the original 20 gig drive out and upgraded an old laptop with it. 9533 songs and still 13 gig free. No worries encoding 256 - 320 vbr at all.

I love the creative labs line of players and bought my girlfriend a 30 gig M for Christmas.

Yes, if you go to Extras->Removable Disk you can set a partition size (anywhere from 512MB to ~15GB). When you plug it into a computer the partitioned part shows up as a removable disk in windows, just like any flash drive. However, you do need Creative's software to manage the music library part of the HDD.

The battery life on mine is about 15 hours with the LCD off or about 7-9 with it on part of the time. It can go through about 2.5-3 full-length movies encoded at 16:9 resolution. With the movies encoded at 4:3, you can expect it to play about 2 full-length movies before becoming low on battery (you can still probably listen to music for a while though). This is because 16:9 displays part of the screen black to fit the aspect ratio to the 4:3 screen.

There is an option where you can 'format' a section of your player to act as a USB drive (Up to 16GB I believe). IE, carrying data as a USB. While for music, as long as the computer has Windows Media Player installed 10+, the player should be detected as MTP device, and you should be able to transfer music (via Windows Explorer).

You don't need creative's software to manage the music part actually. There are several other ways a few that come to mind...explorer, WMP, and MediaMonkey.

I have the 60gb version and it's my first mp3 player. I love how it has so many features and the video quality looks amazing on it. I just wish they would come out with more accessories though.

What kind of accessories do you think Creative needs to make? I'm just now starting to do "research into the Creative M" because I plan to buy one within ~30 days, but it seems like I've seen docking stations and external speaper set-ups for the Creative M.

It's better than a FM transmitter but not as good as a direct line in connection.
The Sony is the best one out there and only $10 at wal-mart.

Just use the adapters line out if you have a volume problem

the more I use it, the more I like... few things I really hope they can change.

#1. limit of video quality it wont take lot of HD videos unless I convert them but conversion takes waaaay too long.
#2. Doesn't support flac or other lossless compressions :(
#3. I can't browse by directories. I got used to browsing by artist and song, but I wish I could browse via directories oh well.

But besides those, I am really happy with it.

Fixed. Sorry, what I meant to say was that they don't include accessories in the package such as a wall charger. You have to buy it separate or charge using your computer through usb...which can take awhile. Also, they should include some type of protective case, but instead they give you a pouch that is pretty much useless.

I bought a protective skin from http://www.bestskinsever.com/ and so far it has done a great job of keeping scratches off the player. You can also buy the skin from http://www.shieldzone.com/ where they offer a lifetime warranty if your player ever gets scratched, but it costs more.

I don't think the dock station is needed unless you want a stand so you can watch movies off of the player. Other than that, it's a great player and I don't regret buying it.
