Anyone mention you have to stir that shit up?

Your title doesn't really make sense either. Natural PB is usually creamy. Same thing. You mean natural (gross) vs. normal (delicious).

We use natural now because it is better for the kids. I hate myself for it. When I was a kid it was always regular delicious peanut butter. Then I went to a friends house and they had natural. It was disgusting. I couldn't be friends with him anymore. Now I've grown up to be a horrible parent.

If you try different brands, you can find Smooth that tastes pretty close to Natural.

LIES! :p

I wish to take issue with your opinion, sir! Since you have natural in your house, I implore you to add some good honey to some and see if that doesn't outshine the fetid chemical concoction you presently prefer. ;)

PB is amazing. I use it for a bunch of recipes and stuff that I've actually been making my own. Seriously, if you have a food processor the work involved is so minimal for the results. Peanuts, salt, peanut oil - done. I've been making ~3 cups at a time and storing in mason jars. You'll probably have to order the peanuts online (I used Amazon) unless you have a local store that'll sell ~20 lbs of spanish peanuts. Of course they don't have to be spanish, but that was what I read to use when I started making it. A little adjusting here and there and you'll have somethin' delicious.

I did this for Peanut Butter Cookies I made.

No one likes oil on top, that's why you thoroughly stir up the natural PB before eating it. By the way, after mixing it, I put the jar in the cabinet, not the refrigerator. This will keep for months, provided you buy your PB in a glass jar. Most come in plastic and should be avoided, unless you intend to consume the jar in a week or two.

This may only be sold regionally in New England, but I like Teddie Old Fashion All Natural Peanut Butter. It is more reasonably priced than the fancy brands sold in Whole Foods. Speaking of Whole Foods, I tried their house brand that you can make yourself. One of the worst PB's I've ever tried. Really dry.

I've checked labels on some so-called Natural brands of PB, and they don't sound all that Natural to me. Can't think of the brands, but read the label for ingredients before buying.

Just buy whatever brand your prefer that doesn't have added sugar. Job done...

+1

We have both versions of the Natural in our house as the wife can't eat the crunchy.

And good honey with it is better than the usual high sugar level stuff.

All the plain stuff I've seen is labelled "refrigerate after opening" and it seems unlikely that's just to prevent reseparation. Also, a thorough shaking (a la paint can) avoids potentially messy stirring.

Not sure what you are buying, the wife even bought something different the last trip it looks as far as natural PB.

I've personally never seen one with "refrigerate after opening" myself.

I even just went and looked at them for the hell of it, it says that nowhere.

Exclusively from Costco for many years, and they carried another brand before switching to their own Kirkland. Happened to open a new one today and the print is tiny. Maybe refrigeration is not strictly necessary for health but preserves freshness. Nuts and oil do last a long time, but still best kept dark, cool, and airtight.

The problem is that I already put PB and honey on crackers even with the regular chemical concoction, so we are back to square one. Concoction + honey > natural + honey. :|

I need to start making my own cashew butter because I bet that beats the concoction. :hmm:

Most natural peanut butters say refrigerate after opening on the label. It really depends on how fast you go through it though and how hot your climate is. The oil can get rancid after a while.
