I have a huge problem with in-grown hairs and shave bumps. It is really bad now and stuff that used to work does not work anymore. I have tried it all. and I mean ALL. The "formula" that used to work was using aveeno oatmeal shave cream, gillette mach 3 (now using the vibrating thing) and tend skin lotion. This does not work anymore. So a cream shave was recommended for me. The kind that removes the hair without shaving (like the powder) Got one, and scared to try it. What have been your experiences with it. Does this stuff work at all?

I have pretty sensitive skin and the best for me is the Nivea sensitive skin shave gel.

I dont get what the big deal is over using shaving cream.

Why not just shave your face dry, with a razor blade? Thats what I do and it seems to work okay. yeah it burns a bit afterwards, but its not that big a deal, at least my face looks clean. And the burn goes away by the end of the day.

PS: how long do you guys use your blades for, before throwing them away?

you must have a face made of leather... which might explain some things about all your posts dealing with the horrible luck you have with girls. do you only have like 5 hairs growing on your chin? your not asian by chance?

thats why people use shaving cream, you should try it some time  it makes the hairs nice and soft for smooth clean shaving with no irritation. your dad never taught you how to shave?

as for the OPs question... you never said what shaving cream your scared to try, so i cant comment

i use Nivea sensitive skin gel with chamomile and vitamin e(like blazert) and i also use nivea sensitive balm after shave with chamomile & vitamin e, good stuff

ps. i keep my face blade for about one-two weeks, my head blade for about one, and my 'other' for about 2-3, depending how often i need to use it.

ah, I am a dumbass. There is a misunderstanding. I was not talking about a regular shave cream. What I meant was the cream shave that removes the hair without shaviing. I think there is a shaving powder also

I just shave... if I have shaving cream available I use it... if I dont or if I'm in a hurry I just drag my CVS brand razor across my face and be done with it.... I guess I have roughneck skin or something...

A product like this has been marketed for black men for years. It's called Magic or Magic Shave by SoftSheen Carson, and lots of people swear by it. They make it in a cream and in a powder. Is this what you have?

I've personally never used it, but I have a tube of the regular strength stuff sitting right here (I started to get really bad razor bumps on my neck). There are a few similar products, but my problem is that they're always plastered with so many warnings I'm hesitant to use them. For example, this stuff says, if this is your first time using Magic, you should use the mild cream, and you shouldn't use it within 36 hours of shaving with a shaver or razor, and not after washing your face, or with any after shave product containing alcohol, or after prolonged sun exposure. And, if you mess up, you have to wait 24 hours before trying again.

There are just so many stipulations with using depilatories. But hey, a lot of guys use them with great results. I just don't want to be the one person who breaks out in hives from using this stuff.

I found your original post funny because our situations are so similar. I had a combination that worked, too. Now, I can't prevent the razor bumps on my neck if I shave with a razor, so I've taken to using an electric shaver. It doesn't cut as close, so the hairs don't grow back in. It's been working out pretty well lately.

But on a related note, the one shaving cream that did prevent razor bumps best was Neutrogena Men Razor Defense Shave Cream.

yes, Ikonomi. That is exactly the one I have. Very same warnings that have me worried. Maybe I should also switch to an electric razor. Which one exactly do you use?

Actually, I don't know. It's very old. :p I've been considering getting a new one, before this one starts ripping out chunks of flesh or something.

Shave more carefully if you habitually nick yourself. Just go slowly and take your time. Make sure you're using a fresh blade/head without any nicks or dents or anything.

I just tried that cream shave on my leg. Works. Will wait 24 hours and if I don't get something nasty I will work on the courage to put it on my face
