Crazy virus..

Hey,

My friend has a virus (I think, anyway) that I've been trying to debug for him, but the virus is causing a tad bit of a delay.

Would anyone know of a virus that:
- Disables CD-ROM drive viewing (can't access CD-ROM drive; haven't tried accessing it in DOS yet since they have WinME. I wil get a boot disk tomorrow)
- Disables System Restore (tried the WinME system restore and Adaptec GoBack, attempts failed)
- Disconnects internet when trying to install Nortan updates
- If LiveUpdate! does get past downloading the updates, a message pops up that says I have chosen not to install the updates.

My friend is also getting an error message everytime on startup: "Cannot open file. May be corrupted. Replace the file with a new one and try again"

I searched on this error message, and removed the virus that it is suppose to be from, but the message still comes up upon every startup. I've also run Nortan Anti-virus to make sure any previous virus definitions might detect it, but I had no luck.

I dunno, this seems like a wild virus if it even is one. I have no idea where to start, anyone have ideas?
