Looks like it involves quite a few Lego Mindstorm sets and obviously they had to tweak the timing on it a lot. Probably did take a while. However if it was all planned out beforehand instead of built piecemeal then maybe not as long, a few weeks at the least I would think.

Nice, just wished that the camera man would have zoomed out to see the whole thing at the end.

It also seems to lose a few balls along the way, need to fix that problem or else it would run out of balls eventually.

I wonder if he could see something like this to lego land etc.

While I am quite impressed by the complexity of this device, it does not qualify as a Rube Goldberg machine:

A Rube Goldberg machine, device, or apparatus is a deliberately over-engineered machine that performs a very simple task in a very complex fashion, usually including a chain reaction.

This machine does not perform a simple task, it just loops.

Im in awe. That was great. I used to play with a lot of lego as a kid. I recently aquired my sets from my mom a few months ago and thought "what the heck, lets try it". Shit I couldnt do anything with it. Cant remember how I ever built some things.

Hey I was a PLTW kid back in HS pre-engineering. We built a stage like in this machine, the color sorter, except we used marbles.

Hey I was a PLTW kid back in HS pre-engineering. We built a stage like in this machine, the color sorter, except we used marbles.

That's similar to what their robopro project is on this year, they have to sort these marble sized balls by testing them for magnetism, conductivity, density, clarity, etc. It's pretty neat.
