What makes me mad is the fact that its the children and the women who end up suffering the most....
I don't know why society still thinks women and children are more important than men.
Further, more men are dying in this conflict than women or children, since it's mainly men (or stupid young teenage boys) grabbing a gun and trying to fight the marines.
Because of your last sentence, I think society feels women and children are "innocent".
Could be. I know I can't recall any images of men up in arms against he US while their wives and kids were carrying billboards saying "Thanks, America! We apologize on behalf of our hubbies!"
It is easy to talk when we are living in our comfortable home & driving fancy cars.
I personally have experienced what the Iraqis are experiencing right at the moment (Vietnam), and the images are disturbing & sadden me as of how cruel the world can be to civilians. And, I still have nightmares of what I have seen 30 years ago.
In a war there is no such thing as winner (or civilian), because everyone loses.
[Edit] According to the US, there were about 350,000 civilian death (but many belive that it could be much more than 1/2 millions civilian death) during the Vietnam war which is about equal to 1/4 of the total armies lost. And most of the civilian death were children. There must be a much larger number of civilian wounded durring the war. And, that isn't factor in the lost from unexploded mines/bombs from 1975 to now (there weren't a clean up program un till the US withdraw the embargo in 1992). Also, after the war there were about 1/2 million South Viet childrens that were orphan by the result of the "Viet Nam Conflict" (don't know the number for North).
Assuming that similar civilian damage percentage in Iraq as compare to Vietnam.
