I Just purchased a tv at costco and they charge $8 fee now with any tv or monitor purchase. Has anyone else heard about this new disposal fee? It's completely rediculous!!!

1. ridiculous.
2. Never bought a TV or monitor at Costco, sorry.
3. If it's a "disposal fee" it's probably charged by your state or local government.

California only, been law for a year, actually supposed to be $10, applies to all retail CRT sales, not just those at Costco.

$8 isn't so bad to properly get rid of an old monitor. So long as that $8 goes to the recycling and proper disposal of what can't be recycled I'd welcome such a fee in New York.

Nope it goes into the general fund.

His $8 will soon be paying for the schooling and health care for our friends to the south who venture up to national city, chula vista, or one of the other school districts./ public heath that has been sued because asking for profof of residence is "discriminory"

To atone for my anti-Mexican thoughts in the past I will now perform an act of penance:

I thank thee, oh Mexico, for thy gift to the world of thine Taco Bell, for it is good.

why don't they just charge it when you go to recyle the damn thing, or junk it. I'd much rather spend that $8 on some shotgun shells, and blow the everloving $hit out of it! that is... if I had a shotgun

I have been told that you can barely get a burger combo for $8 in California. If that is true, that sum is paltry.

A neighbor just inquired about recycling a monitor and the service charges $30. Sooo, I'd consider $8 a bargain.

Because people would just hide it in their trash and not pay the fee.

All the computer garbage gets shipped back to a 3rd world country anyway.

Sorry about the burger claim, but still, $8 is nothing when you are buying a monitor and its not like he's the only one paying it.

What was an old monitor is now recycled into a new target. Duh.
