Crazy Lenovo (former IBM) T42/T43 deals

Shipping is $10 (for "Ground") and $50 for 2-Day. Not sure if every state charges tax everywhere but I had to pay it for Texas. From what I read on thinkpads.com these are shipped from Hong Kong so many people's thinkpads got stuck in customs from 2-10 days.

Wow....you're ignorant

Second that. You ARE ignorant...

The original deals where almost as good as I get using my dad's employee discount (he retired from IBM about a year ago) so they are not bad at all.

I did not see the really good deal for the T42p that the employee site was showing. That thing was awesome. PM 1.7ghz, 256mb ram, FireGL gpu, dvd burner, etc... for $1699. I could not find any quality laptops with a firegl in them for even near that price. Too bad I was outta $ 🙁

i've never owned or used a hight end T-Series thinkpad. Whats so special about them and better than the R-series?

They use the same mainboard so they perform similarly. But R series are more equipped so they are heavier.

I've got both IBM T40 and Dell 700m. T40 is my work machine & 700m is my home machine.
T40 is exceptionally good looking, but Dell gets my vote for its (much better) value. In fact, most of the time I find myself using the Dell more (ligther, smaller yet faster)

Can't comment on reliability, haven't had any problem with them yet. (knock on wood)

BTW, I never owned an Apple notebook, but I've used it occasionally. Very good looking, but completely hate it, I wish they had matched the nice MacOS with a better HW.

How do you compare a T40 with a 700m? The proper comparison in terms of size and weight is X41 and 700m, and the x41 sh!ts on the 700m.

Wrong!

700m "sh!ts" X41+its silly docking station for optical drive, silly

Where's the optical drive on X41? How much is it?

And, show me how you can buy that X41 + DVD Writer for less than $1100?

I really like the design on the T Series IBMs but Dell has some amazing deals. A few days ago I was just a click away from buying this Dell Inspiron 6000:

Pentium M 760 (2.0 GHz) / 1 GB DDR2 RAM / 40 GB HDD / WSXGA+ screen (one up from standard) / ATI X300 PCI-e GFX w/128 MB / DVD-Burner / and Wireless internet... All for...

$1224.00 with free shipping ($24 handling charge?) and not including tax. Can't believe I let that one pass, what an amazing deal...

Here is a picture of the configuration layout.

Only thing that kept me from buying was the hope that Yonah will drop current Dothan prices significantly (or AMD Turion prices for that matter).

I've been reading some amusing messages above...
hey guys, just take a look at the bottom/back of your iPods, Cable Modems, Wireless Routers, Klipsch speakers, Logitech input devices and all kinds of electronics stuff to see if it says something like "Made in China", you gotta destroy them coz they're now putting spyware in all of them.

And yes, the gateway (4025GZ) I bought less than six months ago cost $550 and is half dead already, one of the hinges has cracked, and one speaker gives crappy sound (no, I didn't drop it). My friends' T42 and T41 are only 14" XGA and cost more than twice (or maybe thrice) this gateway years ago, but they have magnesium alloy solid body, are lighter and smaller, and everything including their hinges and speakers are still working perfectly.
