Crazy ideas for breaking 3dMark06 Hall of Fame

While surfing the rage3d forums, I ran across a thread detailing how to softmod an 8800GTS to a Quadro FX4600. The softmodded Quadro outperformed the 8800GTS in 3dmark05 and 03 (not sure about 06). It got me thinking that the capabilities and driver support for Quadro causes it to perform better on synthetic benchmarks, although it may suffer in games. Currently the FX5500 is the best Quadro and goes for over $2300 each on newegg. I'm wondering if anyone's ever heard of trying to SLI two of these suckers with crazy OCing on all of the components then running some synthetics... It's an interesting thought and I'm bored. -_-

It may take more than that to break the 3DMark06 record. I know that current rig at the top of the hill used 1.5 liters for liquid nitrogen for cooling during it's run among many other extreme mods. That's some serious cooling.:Q

Edit: Link if you want to know more. http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...howthread.php?t=153077

And it was 1.4 liters not 1.5L. Opps! ;)

I saw Hipro's rig and many others under the top 5. They are all pretty much SLI'ed 8800's and CF'ed HD2900XT's with Liquid Nitrogen cooled Core 2 Extremes. It seems that nobody has gone the route of SLI'ed Quadro even though it's a beast at rendering. I've heard of instances where it runs games too fast. Unfortunately, it hasn't even been talked about much on the futuremark forums and is widely unused, probably because the FX5500 is extremely pricey and for workstations only.

The Quadro 5500 is based on the 7 series and is comparable to a 7800GTX 512 from what I remember. I can't imagine it scoring anywhere near the 8800s.

The 4600 looks like it's 8 series based though. If it's only slightly ahead, it may just be because the Quadro cores are typically clocked a bit higher than their Geforce counterparts. Their memory is usually much slower, however.
