Craziest problem ever

ok, every time the phone rings, my computer turns on when it is off. (actually my girlfriend computer)

i use and external 56k modem.

system

mobo - Gigabyte GA-7DXE
proc - duron 1.8
512 mb PC2100
20 GB Seagate HD
Sony 48X CD-RW
Sony 16X DVD-ROM

sounds like you need to go into bios and turn off "wake on modem"

i just noticed you said an external modem.... does it use a serial port? or usb?

if its usb then you may need to turn off "wake on usb"

i just checked the manual for your board

its in bios on the "power managment" page
you need to disable "ModemRingOn/WakeOnLan"

...sounds like he's saying every time the phone rings, his girlfriend turns on, or his girlfriend turns on the computer, or...whatever. Maybe it would be better to unplug the phone!
