Crashing Problems with Diablo II and Windows XP.

Anyway this is really starting to piss me off and it only happens in Windows xp. It's not only me my friend who also has XP gets the same problem. What happens is lets say I'm trying to join a game it will start to go dark to load then boom crashes and I get this error. Unhandled Exception: Access_violation(c0000005) On the top it says Diablo II Exception. Now this happens about 1 out of 3 or 5 times when I try to join a game. It is getting really annoying and I've just about had it with it. What the hell could be causing this god dam error? anyone have a clue?

Here are my system Specs.

Pentium IV 1.8Ghz
384MB RDRAM
Asus p4t-E
GainWard Geforce 3

Have all the latest winxp updates? Tried running it in compatibility mode? Is it when you join a LAN game or a BNET game? Is it running in 2d or 3d mode?

I have a similar problem (not as often) using Win2k. Also had the same problem (even less frequently) when I was running Win98SE.

About two weeks ago bnet had a server problem for a few hours where this happened to nearly everyone, every single time, when they tried to join a game. I'm convinced its a Blizzard/bnet problem and there is nothing you can do about it. Seems to happen the most in the busy evenings.

Happens both in 2D and 3d but it seems to be less frequent in 2d mode than in 3D. This never used to happen to me before but it's just pissing me off.
